Although this most recent price drop and market saturation is foiling my plans.

That's what you get for stalking up on them!

Go ahead. You're right. But here's the thing – based on new information and introspection leading me to conclude that I'd made snap judgements without enough information (basically, the sneakers turned me totally sour), I changed my mind. Rosenrot had some really interesting things to say about it on Harajuju, and today was my first time seeing it in person. Of course the boots aren't the greatest boots ever, but for a lot of people the price of entry for mainline MMM boots is just not feasible, or just not worth it (maybe someone just wants that style of shoe to wear with a few outfits). It's not like the original MMM boots are the pinnacle of high quality, yeah? The HMxMMM boots are a good deal at $150. And some people are getting them for sub $100, which is awesome.

I also don't have any particular feelings for Margiela, so there's no love lost there. That said, yeah, I think H&MxMMM is antithetical to the original ethos to Margiela, but that conversation has been done to death.

Some of the other items were cool, too. The camel coat is well constructed. The painted jeans reminded me of Synthese's experiment – they'd be good for him. The belt jacket was pretty ugly, and I can't imagine anyone buying a $400 jacket at H&M.

Your example again puts price into the context. Instead why don't you save up some money and get something you really want versus "I have 'x' amount of disposal income right now so I'll see what I can buy, now." How many shoes does the regular SF poster have? You telling me you need another pair of shoes now just because it is A) cheaper than what was expected and B) You lowered your expectations and will be content with "xyz", which initially was mostly based on the fact that it is 'x' amount of dollars less now.

I don't think you understand what a Guidi custom order entails – there are options for you to select from, but they're not going to make you whatever you want. If you don't like Guidi's styling then it's a non-starter.

Also, I'm not going to get the boots. I don't need them and they don't fill any need that I have. But they're pretty nice.

I've probably been a bit too much of a smartass lately, and I should stop that. True. Sorry. But I didn't say anything provocative here.

How is that custom Temple of Jawnz jacket with the snake skin doing for you Brad? I hope you like it.

What a creepy comment.

I'll keep my eyes open, I've seen a few like this but they've all been pretty distressed.

Technically the cadet jacket is just a blazer buttoned up. Quite a few of the Beams+ blazers will button up fully and Rag & Bone does makes blazers as well

A Golden Bear one:

May be a bit too workwear though compared to Ervell

Yeah now I can see that the real difference is the buttons on the back of the lapel. I actually wish that the ervell didn't have patch pockets.  That golden bear one has a nice shape but not into the fact that its denim.

Just remembered that the traditional jacket where I'm from is quite similar, and called a liqui liqui, this is the best picture I could find, unfortunately I don't plan on going back to venezuela anytime soon..

Seriously GT, did a synapse snap in your brain? I know we joke about it a lot, but your personality has undergone a serious and disturbing change haha (if posts on a clothing forum are any indication, that is).

Just got the H&MMMM black side zips today and damn, they really are quite nice. Good leather, nice shape, burnishing is tasteful, etc. A little uncomfortable, but I sort of anticipated that with the whole laceless, heeled boot thing. Definitely worth it for $100, I'd even venture to say worth it for the $200 I paid a week or so ago.

can you guys stop referring to toasty as GT thanks

Your complaints were as much about the idea of HM x MMM as the cost of the products: why would the collaboration be monstrous at $300 but a-ok at $150?

The point is that the items look nice because they're carbon copies of MMM items that looked nice in the first place.

What bugs me the most about this is that if you care so much about the exclusivity of designer clothing (which is what most of these complaints amount to), you should applaud these types of collaborations because they introduce your expensive niche brand to a wider audience in a way that shows them the label exists, yet doesn't give them an opportunity to purchase the 'authentic' pieces that you already own. It's a form of advertisement that leads to more aspirational consumers that will recognize your $4000 Lanvin jacket for what it is while understanding what they own is a pale imitation of the original.

This isn't only directed at you - I honestly don't think you're too concerned about the exclusiveness of MMM being diluted by plebes who shop at H&M.

I still think that it's weird. But I also think it probably doesn't matter.

I think that SF tries really hard to discount that a large element of what makes expensive clothes appealing is that they're expensive and exclusive.

I am not immune from this.
