Update in the Rick Owens jacket/Coca-Cola bottle fiasco:

Received an email from PayPal today saying: "The seller has submitted an explanation describing the disagreement with this claim. We will evaluate all available information including the original listing, and both seller and buyer statements. A final decision will be made on this claim per our User Agreement."

They haven't asked for any evidence from me, they only have my initial claim statement. Good? Bad? They said it could take up to a month to hear back.

istasi, in my experience with filing PayPal claims, I've had to contact PayPal about the case to ask if they required any more information from me to move the process along. This might not be the norm, but they responded within a few days after I sent my message to them

they will likely contact you and tell you to return it, ask you to provide tracking, and then refund you. just had the same thing happen with a pair of boots that turned out be a dish sponge...

FWIW, I was never asked to provide any evidence when a guy sent me a shirt with some holes in it; they just sent me a pre-paid shipping label, I sent the item back, and I got my money back a week or so later. This was through ebay, though, not just PayPal.

Interestingly enough, the guy re-listed the item at the same price, but he included the holes in the description this time.

My brakes, which I have suspected for a couple of weeks to be terminally ill, finally started making that checking account-draining griiiinnnnnding at nearly every stop this afternoon. Got a buddy who can likely help me replace them, but between buying the brakes and compensating him for his troubles, I may be forced to join Teger's ill-fated "no cop until 2013" club.

Thanks. I replaced the front pads last summer, but not the back ones now that I think of it, so I actually know how to do that. Thankfully, it was only today that the grinding started, and I was close enough to home to minimize driving after that.
