I sold a fucking lovely Schneider blazer a few months ago and shipped it out without tracking but I did get insurance.
The guy claimed he never received it, post office was unable to track, and then refused to pay the insurance because I'd missed signing a box.
I refunded the money even though I suspected the guy might not be telling the truth. Basically had no way of proving it and I didn't want to take the risk that if he truly hadn't received the item he'd lost some money. That was a big hit to take but that's just the way it is.
In the end shipping is the seller's responsibility unless you specifically request that he ships without insurance to save yourself on shipping fees.
