seriously had no idea a lot of people thought so, and I've always thought that most of their stuff is real cool

I think this is just sort of the group consensus here, passed down from the SF elders who witnessed MMM when it was still helmed by Margiela hisself.

How many MMM pieces have you handled, mikey?
MMM still makes some nice stuff, most of which is based on designs created during the glory days. I haven't heard anyone say MMM is shit until now. I don't agree with that.

Just form your own opinion. If you think it's cool, great, if you think it's worse than Gap, whatever, it's your opinion have at it. If you're going to share it with others though, at least substantiate it a little.

Yeah sorry MMM isn't shit. In many cases the p to q is out of whack. Worse, in recent times, the design team has created a metric ton of totally ugly bullcrap that should not have ever gotten past an initial concept phase. But a lot of it is still good, selectively, and let's face it most labels these days put out more garbage than worthwhile stuff. It's tough to think of anything non-Schneider that even has a half-decent batting average, honestly.

Not much good stuff these days. I'd say anything suspension point is carrying plus frank leder, some balenciaga and missoni is good shit and that's pretty much it really. Ysl has gotten more gauche with knitted branding of the logo on knits as well but I've noticed a big drop in cool clothes from them in the past year.

I'm more into timeless and classic stuff nowadays that I can mix in with my wardrobe like barbour, saint james, vass, ten c etc. I don't adhere to any style templates anyway so it works out perfectly for me when it gets cool enough to wear this stuff. Maybe even some wwm quilted overshirts or some shit I don't know.

was thinking about picking up this APC duffel coat, then getting my taylor to replace the toggles by standard buttons (eg nice white one). Has anyone done something of the sort? I hate toggle closures with the fury of 1,000 suns but obvs don't want to waste money on this endeavor if it's not gonna look decent

I seem to fall into three categories. 1. vaguely military influenced stuff (often which has been re-appropriated to be more mainstream, like a bomber jacket), 2. clean minimalistic stuff which is probably what Jet is referring to, 3. random outliers. 1 and 2 are the vast majority of my clothes, which overlap to various degrees, and then I have a few things from 3 that get thrown on every once in a while like Rafstros and Jil marble and McQueen Rorschac print. Oddly, while I always intuitively want to lean more towards #2 and buy more Schneider/Jil/MMM/certain Helmut Lang, I always end up leaning back towards the military influenced stuff because it ends up looking better on me.

ah well, I see your point but then as you said, that is the case with a lot of brands (what's up with that anyway, is the world running out of good designers?) confused.gif
though not in the same price-class as SS or mmm, COS has imo just kept releasing nice stuff (about the thing with half-decent batting average you wrote), like seriously, pretty much everything they have online I quite like nod[1].gif

EDIT: and I REALLY hope the white-painted side-zips seen in the preview will be part of the collection inlove.gif

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that Margiela was never really that involved with the menswear at any point.

Anyway, my opinion on Margiela is just that the designs that people like here are typically ones recycled season after season like the sidezips and GATs. There still might be some stuff worth buying every season but it's never very original (and the bulk of it is crap). MMM hasn't really come out with anything that has impressed me recently and I was under the impression that others felt the same. I didn't mean to delve into a whole conversation on the matter. I still think the collab is gonna be complete and utter shit (for guys at least).
