Ha University of Portland, it's a pretty small Catholic private school (I'm not catholic or even religious, no idea why I picked UP but it's grown on me over the years).

You'd think university officials would ease up on the booze thing given the growing disparity between cost of education and value of most undergrad degrees.

It baffles me what passes for a college experience at places that aren't UCSB

My freshers group has people discussing politics. Specifically if it is possible for India to over take China economically. Not going to a party school sadly.

There are times when I really don't like New England, but then I realize I'd probably really not like the West Coast.

I dunno. I went to a small college full of nerds, and while our parties were certainly not CU-level-sofa-burning-riot-level, booze on campus was AOK from freshman year onwards, and there was certainly zero active regulation of alcohol by cops or college security. We weren't quiet. I guess it just depends on where you end up. I had a ridiculous "bar" (which, for a freshman, is as many plastic handles of mccormicks vodka as you can afford - tastes like sharpies and despair) in my freshman dorm.
