That white on the bottom is kinda ugly though. Haven't seen them worn so I do'nt know if it's visible when actually on feet.

Eh, whatevs, I rock Tourney lows w/o gum sole. It's all good.

KingJ, just wanted to say thanks for posting this (http://harpers.org/media/pdf/dfw/HarpersMagazine-1996-01-0007859.pdf — It's a DFW piece on taking a luxury cruise) back whenever you did. I printed it out and threw it in my bag, and by chance I left my book at work the other day and got some time to read it. That guy was such a good writer. I think one of the marks of good writing is that it gets into your head and changes the way you think and look at things, if only temporarily. When I got off the train this morning that DFW voice was in my head and everything seemed comical and more than a little duplicitous.

It's always interesting to me when folks say things like "that shoe fits a half size large or a half size small." Isn't there a point where we all just have to tolerate slight imperfections in the way shoes fit? The hunt for a ready to wear shoe that fits dead-on would just be exhausting.

Not to mention that everyone has a stronger foot so even if it fit perfectly RTW on one foot, fit would be slightly imperfect on the other. Half size fit "problems" for non-athletic sneakers are a joke.

Inserts are your friends. A half size too big is no problem at all.

In general I agree that size up/down advice is near useless for footwear, but a half size can make a huge difference. Sneakers might be more forgiving than dress shoes, but (as an example) Vans in a size 9 are unbearably tight with socks, fall off my foot in a size 10, but are just right in a 9.5. Going up half a size and putting in an insert makes the instep too tight and makes the shoes unwearable for long stretches.

Also, I can't remember which comedian pointed this out, but why do we even have half sizes in the first place? Shouldn't there just be twice as many sizes?

Got an email that Superdenim is going to be doing a flash sale site called http://marrkt.com, which will debut with a Cabourn sample sale. Neo heritage brands nerds rejoice?

Working in Portland this week. Outerwear in August is like a small gift from the fashion gods.

I know it's a theme that gets rehashed every few months, but I am getting really tired of being low-balled by people with ~20 posts

it's easy enough to say no, or just ignore it. there's no harm in asking.

^suppose that's true, just seems like I've gotten quite a few in a row, so probably makes it seem like more of widespread occurrence then it actually is
