I don't even know what a wardrobe staple is supposed to be, I mean everyone likes at least slightly different stuff.

+1 to both of these. Depending on what you like and what your lifestyle is a "staple" piece could vary quite a bit. Similarly, I hate all those "5 items every man should own"/etc sort of lists... plenty of guys have no need to ever own a pair of chinos or desert boots.

I feel your pain. Sometime this week I'm probably going to start a new work project, and unlike the last place I was at, where I could wear whatever the fuck I wanted, I'm probably going to have to wear biz casual of some sort. Work appropriate clothing for the summer sucks- nowhere near as fun as stuff you can wear in the fall/winter and I can't find much of it that I really like...plus its making me feel guilty for wanting to buy some sneakers and jeans that I can't wear to work and should probably put that $$ toward work clothing.
