i dont understand the mr porter hate. you're all complaining about how they aren't buying the bleeding edge runway stuff, but very few stores stock those types of clothes because they don't sell. in fact, a lot of people should be happy that stores like mr porter and park and bond are carrying brands like geller, ervell, jean shop, beams+ etc, because that means they're making huge buys and keeping these brands afloat.

that said all of my purchases lately have been short sleeve button down shirts from uniqlo. 29.90 all day.

oh sorry, i thought this was styleforum not gqonthecheapforum honest mistake shog[1].gif

it sucks not because it doesn't have bleeding edge but because what it makes people do. although the responsibility obviously falls squarely on the shoulder of the shopper.

i hope to avoid all threads while the sale gets deeper and deeper and this place is flooded with monotony and mediocrity patch[1].gif

You act like interesting and salable are mutually exclusive, which isn't the case.  Porter's entire buy with a couple exceptions looks like it could be from a single brand.

I think their fall stuff was a little more interesting, this season was especially bland.

spring/summer is always boring, but you're overexaggerating how boring their buys are. it also doesn't help how the model and style thing (which is a function of the type of costumer they're selling to)

^ LOL

point wasn't to burn teger, it didn't deserver burning and he's a nice fellow. but he knows what he's written is thinly veiled contrarian petit-pauvre prose about pinching every penny. same goes for GN

point is that with sale seasons and sites like porter people are enticed to buy and usually in larger quantities ending up with blind consumerist wardrobes and the unfortunate consequences can be seen in the past few pages of RP

but hey if that's the goal then moar power -- as enabler in chief, i say buy buy buy teacha.gif

Yeah, I guess I'm over-exaggerating a bit re-reading my comment.  But it looks like their buyer went - ok, light blue short sleeve button-ups are in! And then bought one from every brand they stock.  Ditto for chinos in every color, shorts, etc etc.  They have a few stand-out pieces but 90% of their buy seemed to follow that format, which means that they have 20 of every 'basic' item from all their brands and most of the cool items from the brands they sell got left out, and especially by the time the sale hits there was very little variation.

I agree that if I was in a room with all those clothes instead of looking at them online I might think differently.

Told my dad about Mr. Porter after he saw a couple of my buys from FW. It's now his favorite website, he dropped big bucks once the sale started and keeps asking me when there are going to be more drops shog[1].gif
