I still have my magically-cut pair of size 31 Girbaud jeans with my own big 'L'-shaped repair stitching across the thigh... I actually had to flag down the garbage man one Saturday morning after the moms threw them away. They will never leave me!

Just finished a new DIY piece. A hybrid shirt inspired by a Tory Burch tunic meets Burkman Bros. I just need to find the perfect bucket hat to complete the look. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

I already got an idea for my next DIY piece inspired by the movie Metropolis meets 20s Art Deco meets Elvis

Naturally, I perused the offerings on Mr. Porter. While the reaction the sale sparked here deserved a lot of the criticism it got, the sale itself seems like one of those moments a lot of us refer to when we tell newcomers to be patient and pick up some of these brands at discounted prices. I mean, I don't have much interest in anything on the site, but for someone starting out looking to upgrade some of the items that are staples to a lot of people (e.g. nicer oxford shirts), this sale is welcome.

Where the sale is a detriment is that for some, it's easy to get caught up in buying a ton of items that the person had marginal to no interest in before a sale sticker got slapped on it. Also, while the sale seems like a good chance to stock up on basics, the people who use it to do the bulk of their clothes shopping for the year are probably assembling really bland, underwhelming wardrobes.

I don't even check Porter until news like this comes.

Never thought it to be an interesting e-store aside from a handful of pieces that I would really buy, AFTER sales is announced and I start window shopping

That said I think you can actually mix it up quite well with the different selection if you knew what you were doing.

Footwear is probably the most lacking and boring

Actually, belts are much more lacking... Nothing really of note except for basics and Bottega Veneta. I think that I told Pete that Mr. Porter is a store where I'd buy stuff, but that fails to excite me 9 times out of 10.

There are some decent outerwear and accessories choices, and their denim selection is solid. That said, I usually use the site during sales to stock up on basics or to try my luck on pieces that I like but are too rich for my blood at retail.
