second one is cool aside from the obnoxiously long laces, which are made even worse because they're probably intentional.

Seriously though, the difficulty I bet that one dude had trouble with the "double jab, right uppercut, left hook, right straight" because he can't string together punches without hitches. He can probably do a 1-2 or a 1-4 or a 1-1-2, but you try to string together a 1-1-6-3-2, and unless you have your feet under you properly, and the footwork is ingrained in you, you will look stupid. The double jabs have you on the ball of your left foot. The right uppercut, at least conventionally, plants the left, and puts you on the ball of your right. The left hook transfers the weight so that you are on the ball of your left again, with the right planted, and then the right straight switches the feet again. To a seasoned boxer, or anyone who uses boxing style striking, it's a pretty obvious combination, but apparently not to these guys.

I think it seemed pretty clear to me that "all of Rick Moranis's cousins" are there for what is this < 10th boxing lesson. If the ability to carry out that combination is based on the proper footwork, it would seem to me that the first thing that the esteemed "instructor" should concern himself with is teaching the proper footwork. So why doesn't he just work on that rather than walking around and treating everybody like an ass.

A Canada Post worker once left a note that he'd hidden a package of mine in my garbage bin, which I'd say is even worse than leaving something out in the open.

...

Hah, that gym and the guys in it are definitely real. I looked into going there some years back but it was too expensive and I ended up opting for Krav Maga instead (my friend jokes that I can only kick Palestinians' asses, but I'm not much of a tough guy so I think all nationalities are safe from me biggrin.gif ). When I had a look around, some of the guys looked legit, and I imagine they had been training for some time, but there were a couple of obvious noobs who did everything like they felt embarrassed.

And yeah, that dude is definitely not a good instructor. He obviously doesn't care at all about teaching these guys basic skills. It's just funny to watch him ripping on them.

where do you get krav maga lessons and are they worth it?
I stopped because work wouldn't cooperate with the class schedule, but yeah, I think it was worth it. I went here: http://www.kravmagainc.com/Krav-Maga-NYC.html. You learn pretty basic stuff to start, and eventually get into ground stuff and grappling. First day of class, Rhon, the head instructor, gives this speech about how if you want to get in touch with your chi you're in the wrong place. They're there to teach you to fight. Haha. Fok said that guys who have the most swagger are the ones whose bodies are functional, and I definitely felt that way while I was doing it.

Incidentally, if anyone can recommend a place for Brazilian jiu jitsu in NYC let me know. Been curious about that for a while now.

Does anyone else think it's weird to be stared down by a sale?

Pickpack I don't have a recommendation but just wanted to say a couple of my friends have been getting into that lately. They are all of different sizes but it's gotten to the point where the technique trumps brute physicality.

RFT: I have gone from one suit to none now. Perhaps yohji is the way forward teacha.gif

WTF, man. What's the deal with certain UK shops not deducting VAT? I called one shop to do a phone order if they deducted VAT, and they said "no, we don't do that". If I'm going to be hit with import duties, I don't want to pay $100 in VAT on top of it.

That's illegal.
