Many may think it is filthy rotating between 1-2 outerwear, trousers/denim, and footwear.

Who are you talking about? Isn't this sort of thing totally individualized?

I think i've honed in on an aesthetic/fit I want over the past two years, which is nice. or maybe not!

I took a more color-oriented approach to that for years, mostly wearing blue, grey, green, brown so that I could wear anything in my closet with anything else and it would look good.

I kept shirt and pants basic, just some jeans or other blue pants, and 90% of the time a gray shirt, but rotating outwear and shoes almost every day since I tend to like shoes and jackets a lot more than pants/shirts.

This is still the foundation of everything I wear, but over the years it's changed a bit, getting some more aggressive pants and shirts, and incorporating black in there. I'm still not very good at black as evidenced by me basically wearing it with only white and more black, but I try to mix other things in there too on occasion. It's unfortunately pretty separate from my every day look but I do wear it once a week I'd say.

I could wear a different pair of shoes every day of the week, but I stick to around 2-3 pairs so my coworkers don't think I spend all my money on shoes (not that they would be wrong...).

1. Get a good "base" wardrobe of mostly neutral basics. Yes I would put winter coat, leather, jeans, pants, boots etc on this list. From there, only sporadically cop amazing, more aggressively styled/coloured pieces. This may seem like a slow process.
2. Buy aggressively styled pieces that come under the "basics" category; e.g. buy a conceptual outer coat, buy tween's philip lim block pants, buy green boots, buy copper oxide shirts.
Problem with number 2 is that you don't have enough good neutrals to wear the aggressive pieces as you're building up a wardrobe. In the end it forces you to buy more because you have stuff that can't be worn together. I am partially guilty of this.

+1

Also, a nice black leather jacket helps any wardrobe imo.

do you think they would really be able to mentally catalog the different pairs of shoes you're wearing (is your office very small)? and regardless, why would you care? If you've got great shoes, I say wear 'em!

I like his outerwear rule, 1 of each: a coat, leather, and ? (I forget the last redface.gif)
But that is the sort of direction I am trying to create a dialogue about as I am curious and I think will help me in further gaining some confidence in a sense.

i would get really bored with my stuff if i had one leather, the "rules" dont work for everyone. However, yah i think as long as you are buying shit you'll actually wear it wont hurt. Plus, if you accumulate a lot you can always sell it and that helps others trying to make their wardrobe anyways so its win win

I basically rotate one ToJ leather jacket and one +J blazer. I have to wear business casual 4 days of the week (which are simply well fitting dress shirts + chinos + shoes) so rotating two "looks" keeps me from getting bored, personally.

My real problem is that i own too many sneakers.

Yeah, I just read the NYT review of their T5 show and they said they killed. Back flips into Splits on stage, moshing with the crowd and never missed a single note! I really want to see them, and they are playing like 2 blocks from my house. But why the sneaky double fee Ticketmaster? WHY

for the CONVENIENCE, bows. because the interwebz is so not accessible by all of mankind that they need to charge a convenience fee to use their automated processing machines.
