Do you really think so? Like, I'm not trying to suggest that it's awkward to actually
meet people who are "from the internet"; but I know that I would feel a bit odd knowing that whoever it is that I'm meeting already has some preconceived notion of who I am, which is constructed strictly through my image and my writing on a forum about men's clothes.
Hell, that's an
extremely particular, or narrow, context for a first impression. That is what's "awkward," I think. Just imagine someone stopping you in the street, or someone sending you a message on Facebook, or a not-so-close friend pulling you aside at a party, mentioning your presence on SF—they know you first and foremost through a men's fashion website in which people discuss "baller sneakers (over $300)," use phrases like "kop that," reference "goth ninja-" inspired looks without a hint of irony, and do other random shit that, in "everyday conversation,"
just doesn't make sense.
There's nothing wrong or uncool or weird about any of this, it's just an extremely unusual background for first impressions—or other social contexts—is all. Does that still sound awkward? Like I bet people here are chill as fuck in real life, but it's just a very unorthodox way of meeting somebody.
