Yet, despite his potential, Kanye has unveiled two at-best mediocre women’s collections and been received with mock-interest and general ridicule. Why shouldn’t Yeezy be treated as a joke by the fashion community that once embraced him so warmly as a mascot? For several reasons.

First of all, Kanye is a black, American, heterosexual, male hip-hop artist. For a man of this background to even show at Paris fashion week is not only a coup, it’s a miracle. Kanye should be respected and lauded for getting a spot two seasons in a row on the covetable schedule.

i fucking laughed

and then this was in the comments

When's the last time you watched a fashion show and thought, "Damn, all of these pieces are dope"? High fashion=pushing boundaries and reinventing. Forget what critics say, because the same designers that are bashing Yeezy would do anything to have him photographed wearing there label... And for the record, when's the first time you seen a piece from Givenchy? Oh, that's right, Yeezy taught you.

lo fucking l

There is a fundamental difference between we in SW&D and them in MC.

In MC, the feeling is like being in a flea market, or a thrift shop.  Most threads are simply "How do I fix this item, which I bought for 2 dollars at a garage sale from a shady mofo?"... "I got this on Ebay and it looks the previous owner took a dump in these suit pants...I put them in the washer and the shape seems to have changed, but does it still look OK?"....

The fits are a "what's what" of what's available in thrift shops these days...everything is hideously mismatched, worn out, discolored....thank God we cannot smell or feel across the internet...most posts are about what's on sale, where, and at how deep of a discount...I even get the feeling a lot of MC members are just flea market owners rummaging for more garbage to hawk...

We in SW&D are a much more worldly and genteel bunch...more affluent, if you will.  Not all of us are buying Yohji at full online price (this is full retail + online jack-up + DHL shipping and handling + VAT + local customs and taxes)...but we are at the cutting edge of fashion and design....what we wear and post can be described  as avant-garde, as real "fashion" and "style".  We wear the creations of the leading names of the fashion world...what we wear is featured on the covers of insider fashion magazines...it's in the news when the designers and managers of our labels change...and translations of the newsbriefs are posted on our forum threads...What we wear comes from stores like Selfridges or Harrods in the UK....from Barneys or Neiman Marcus in the United States...or Mr Porter online...

How can you even think of putting these two communities together?

worst example: I've heard of Givenchy far before I've ever heard of Kanye, and Givenchy sucks (I'll give them credit for Pi though).

unrelated: does anybody buy John Galliano? I wouldn't dare ask if anyone wears his stuff, I'm positive nobody would wear that garbage in public.

Givenchy's advertising budget just has one column labeled "Kanye".

I think some of the guys in MC, for whatever reason (and they are about as diverse as there are individuals) feel that anything outside of "classic men's clothing" is heresy. Personally, I look at an outfit's face value. Which can sometimes be good, rarely fantastic, hopefully interesting, but often just plain ugly.

The irony is that often the most vociferous haters of SW&D post less-than stellar subpar godawful terrible fits in MC.

i think their mentality comes in trying to figure out what makes an outfit bad, making a rulebook out of it, and then judging everything by the rules

also nerdy obsession with construction and fit, which admittedly pervades this sub forum as well
