haha my post was totally unrelated to yours (yours came up while I was typing out mine) but I get what you're saying.

One big thing though - don't dress weird, or silly, or outlandish or anything like that just for the sake of it - that will always just come across as dorky.

as far as indigo denim and gats... i don't know what state of wear yours are in. if they're still fresh and on the blue-blue side and not the blue-brown side, you can easily just wear some button up shirts, or an OCBD, an unstructured blazer from someone like EG or something similar, and just be a casual dude that looks good. can even throw in the aforementioned turtleneck under the shirt if you want to get a little more progressive (or just old school prep)

if they're worn and in blue-brown then the possibilities are much greater, and lends itself better to what it sounds like you want to do. i like to stick with browns and greens and tans and sometimes greys to complement that though. You can buy my barbour bomber biggrin.gif but that isn't hobo status

Wow...I just bought something MTM, and the measurements came back way fucked up. Really hoping the seller's good for a remake or refund. Not looking forward to opening a PayPal dispute. frown.gif

You mean like coated denim? Because yeah, I'm seeing that a lot on the streets here. Which is kinda like dammit, because I really do love my 3Sixteens—i just want to be able to align my look with what these French dudes are wearing.

And tween, haha—woops. Weird textual mishaps I suppose.

But yeah, you're right—I don't want to wear weird shit just to look weird. However, I do want to get beyond a simple Americana (read: J. Crew-informed) style. I suppose that's what I mean when I say that I wanna "weird-out"; I just want to turn the page on the East coast and open up to a Continental European-inspired look.

As far as the denim/GATs, are you referring to the (dis)coloration of the jeans, or of the shoes? If the former, then I should mention that I've had these jeans since July and they've still got a lot of life in 'em; if the latter, then I should be even more explicit in saying that I'm waiting on a pair of GATs in the mail (not MMM, by the way—rather the German ones being proxied in the GATs thread), so they'll be fresh and white-ish. Which probably means that I'll be following the first part of your advice.

take a look at what guys around you are doing though, I'm sure you'll be able to spot ones with a style you like, and that gives you an idea of something to work towards.

im not sure all denim with a sheen needs to be coated. my somet (030) look more, forgive me, fashion-y than work wear-y

whereas most nudies that arent coated look like workwear denim

I want to get away all slim-fit everything. Maybe wear more trousers, too.
Same here. Still like my slim stuff, but I'd like to have more of a mix. And I don't want any cotton trousers either (shah nod[1].gif, though I've kinda felt this way for a while now so you can't take all the credit) Found some DVN trousers I want, but they're only online, and I have really bad luck buying online. I'm 0 for 6 with online purchases in the last year.

My advice - don't. It's not like you are going to be able to hide your nationality (from speech to gait and carriage to just body type,) and unless you toss all your clothes, and walk into some French high street shop and buy new everything, taking the sizing advice from SAs wholesale, you are going to look out of place anyway. May as well be proud and do it well. Americans do casual well. If you want elegance, Italians are not a bad place to look. Fashionable and chic, definitely the French. But you are not French. So do casual well. At the same time, pick pieces that feel right. Do this stuff organically. Let it evolve.

I wear pretty much the same thing everywhere I go - pullover, a dark jacket or a leather jacket, indigo jeans - sort of slouchy but skinny, and chukkas or sneakers (nearly always chuck-a-likes.) One of about 12 belts. Otherwise, I'd have to change when I go to another country, and then change again for every city. Way too much work. And I'd never feel comfortable.

My chest size went up two inches in the last two months or so, so now slim fit just doesn't really look good.  Kinda changed the way I wear anything.  Also, I now have two (2) shirts that fit correctly, which is a bit aggravating.  I still like tighter pants, though, although those n(n) pants have been working their way into the rotation.

Some jackass is playing Careless Whisper over and over on a sax outside my window, and it is driving me nuts. I am not close to street level -- it must be deafening down there.
Damn you, now the song is stuck in my head too.

Maybe it's Sexy sax man

(well worth a repost)

I think he's wearing those MMM sequin pants too
