I hate those shoes and think less of people who wear them. I try not to moralize about poor clothing choices, but this is an instance where I feel that God is on my side. Seriously, what about the children? v edit: (6)

Oh my God, I've never thought of it this way. This is the worst!

Is it though? I think that those shoes are an indication of mental sloth. For me, I will either put a lot of thought into things, or none at all (as my completely non-decorated office shows.) If you really don't care about your appearance, than you should buy the cheapest pairs of shoes you can find over the internet, and wear those. With the cheapest pairs of jeans. And teeshirts on sale. Or maybe, sweats. All day long.

If you do care, however, you should really take the effort to be an educated customer. Devote some time to it. Don't half ass it. Those shoes are worn by guys who want to looks sort of trendy, but can't even be bothered to figure out what is trendy.

Pay biscotti no mind he's become the forum contrarian over the past few months.

I feel the same way, though I do feel kind of mean for thinking so. On the other hand- I strongly believe there's a special place in hell for people that wear white nikes/shox/etc with their dress clothes.

From what I've seen when wandering through stores, most of those guys wear them because they needed new shoes, went to buy some, and their gf/wife or the SA suggested them. Its not as much that they don't care, its that they want someone else to choose something for them

That's mental sloth as well. You're a grown man. Buy your own clothes.

Agreed. Especially considering how much effort the same people will put into the appearance of their house or car.

I think some (many?) guys are completely uncreative, not because they don't want to be, but because they simply aren't. Also, I'd bet there are a ton of guys who are deathly afraid of not fitting in with their buddies.

Cars are easy because there is a lot of branding / marketing. You want a nice car? Easy, buy a lexus/bmw. When people think of nice clothing to buy they think of designer name brands and automatically think of hugo boss, kenneth cole, or the dbag brands for the younger guys. It's not really their fault, it's all they really know / have heard of The way people are dressed is a big deal to us, but i'm sure most of the population don't really want to think too much about it

That's very true. The mainstream female customer actually likes these shoes on her guy. To her, it's a "dressy" step above a Nike Air Force One or Payless imitation Adidas shell-toe.

These couples often come in to chortle at and ridicule our men's shoe assortment. They'll pick up the Alden Longwings and remark that they're something that Grandpa used to wear. Clearly, Grandpa had a lot more taste. And the McNairy saddle shoes absolutely blow their mind. La Guy is right, a lot of this comes out of laziness. These are literally the sweatpants of the footwear world.

^love that grandpa line, he def has a lot more style

There this dude at work who goes out and buys a pair of shoes when his disintegrate on his feet. His go to places are skechers and payless no joke, he never pays 30-40 each time and balks at the thought of say a 100 dollar sweater (though mine are many multiples of that) yet he will without hesitation drop 1k in vegas in a weekend. Gotta love pots.

people also assume brown + leather = 'dressy'
