this has been my experience too with the smooth leather. Felt plasticky and am pretty sure it's corrected grain. Quite a let down.

I'm assuming that shirt is woven, so technically it can't be fair isle. Fair isle refers to a knitting technique, really, not a specific pattern. It has to do with how the yarn is carried while knitting. Most of what we call fair isle could also be intarsia or another type of colorwork, you'd have to see the reverse side to tell. That said, fair isle patterns do have some common traits (only like a half dozen colors tops, two per row at most).
