The trick here is what aeglus said about $20 glasses in Korea.

Lenses and frames are a massive scam. I know this is SF so if you wanna spend a lot of money on them, that is your prerogative, but the scam part comes into play when it would appear to single moms and the under privileged that the only way they can see clearly is to throw a minimum of $200 at glasses (or even worse, for their kids who can no longer see the blackboard).

Luckily, with sites like Zenni Optical and others, this is no longer the case. If you want a pair of $20 prescription sunglasses they can be had.

You'd then have some incredible lenses that are laser cut to the dimensions of the frames rather than relying on cookie-cutter shapes most Rx use. But then again what's the point if you're going to get garbage frames anyway

every lens is cut, ground, bent, shaped to form to any frame. it doesn't matter if you spend $100 at walmart or whatever Zeiss lenses cost. They are all created the same. On the other hand, the material Zeiss uses is probably much nicer, which is where the $$$ comes into play. and the name of course

not all lenses are cut/ground/bent/shaped my dear boy, not all lenses are created equal. perhaps you should look into the matter some more

german engineering. if you're into photography or imaging of many sorts (surgical microscopes, medical imaging, lasers, telescopes) you'll certainly hear the name. was a fellow named carl zeiss who started carl zeiss jena (now known as carl zeiss ag).
for starters, the first superficial difference you'll notice is the color of light reflected from the lens. whereas most lenses will show a blue or greenish hugh, zeiss usually has a yellowish reflectivity. this is totally worthless but a small detail that is noticeable. another difference is that they are always sent to a lab to be cut by laser to the exact dimensions of the frames you want them in. this is rarely done with run of the mill lenses which are, as you said, ground/bent/shaped etc to fit. you can find all kinds of reviews on the optical superiority just google it.

i think you have to buy the frame from them as well, but not 100% sure. their selection for frames is lacking, but i remember them having a lot of lens options.

their prices are ridiculously low. my mom bought a pair that normally would cost her $700 with the frame, lenses, and Rx, for $175 + tax.

UK urban outfitters has also been selling april77, nudies, apc, filippa k, acne, and other stuff like that (think opening ceremony buys a year ago or oak). Rarely see anything in town but levis 511 in terms of "stylish" jeans if those count. Don't think it'll make much difference. In the US they'd probably run like $80-100 at UO and why would most people that shop there buy them when they could just get chucks, vans or chinatown white sneaks for much cheaper? Personally i like when UO carries things i like because ****'s always available at sales

**** you, man. Is 100 here today (according to the thermometer i walked by earlier). Was kinda windy for a bit but it was terrible wind. Like a heating vent or something just blowing steamy air at me making it much worse. I do miss how every building, apartment, restaurant, etc... in florida has strong central AC

Good luck. I've been telling myself the same thing for over a year now but i still have yet to sell a single thing despite having a ton of **** i don't wear and have been meaning to sell. Laziness is tough to overcome. Hope you manage to follow through and reup the wardrobe

On on trip to Minneapolis, one of my friends I was with wanted a new pair of sneakers.... We found a nice pair of ferragamo hightops at Saks off 5th (LARS model in white leather and blue suede with a blue sole, they are actually very nice and not too far from CP/Lanvin/etc aesthetically)... There were on sale at $250 from $600, not a bad deal overall. He was definitely unsure of this kind of purchase (his current shoes were junky sport store dreck, and the most he'd spent on ANY clothing was maybe $100), Our other friends were WTFing at this kind of money. But when he put them on, the first words out of his mouth are 'these are amazing'. Immediately bought them. We then moved our drunk selves over the suits rack and he got an Isaia for $800, because 'he felt like a god in it'.

Kind of funny how the tactile experience of good jawns changes a person. He's now looking at a pair of ndg grey jeans and some gitman shirts.

That night we also got stuck in an elevator and missed the fireworks, but that's another story (only 20 minutes, no Tosh.0 redemptions in my future).
