Don't really care about highly conceptual pieces, just upgrading staples for now. Hardly any of my spare cash goes to clothes anymore.

I hate to agree... I do like some stuff every season, and their jean cut has historically been among my favourites. Also they did sneakers pretty well this season. So it is not irrelevant. But whenever I look back to like FW07 and FW08, some 06 stuff even, I'm like "damn, you guys had way fewer materials to work with back then and yet it was awesome, now you can pretty much do whatever you want, and I'm bored". It goes beyond re-hashing trends from 3 years ago, they actually did those trends much better 3 years ago themselves. I guess you could characterize it as an example of focus resulting in a better product.

compare their PoW rabbit fur collar m65 jacket to the ugly m65 jacket they made a few seasons ago - a world of difference. it's amazing how a brand can regress within its own aesthetic, although i think they're hurting from abandoning the streetwear influence that was there when they got started. i think the best example of this trend is probably their shirting. from slim riri zip flannels to ugly as ass block shaped horseblanket plaid monstrosities, that are made in china and actually cost more money?

Disagree, heartily. Some of his stuff is overdesigned garbage. The entire Seconds line is straight up embarassing, some of his dip dye stuff (esp t-shirts) look like student projects, and anything where he goes way too deep into the past (the sleeve lacing, etc) is way too much.

When he gets his shit together, it's amazing. I loved a lot of this Spring/Summer. You don't have to go 100% Prussian gallery owner's son styling. If you have a slightly more fuck-off style, it's very easy to just throw one or two of his pieces on.

compare geller last season to geller 2-3 seasons ago. there's a serious regression. I miss things like his ribbed cuff dress shirts and his cossack knits - his knits used to amazing.

Not to be a dick and tell you what you think, but I it seems like you're just upset he hasn't made a piece of two you like lately. You can't really have the crazy cossack knits (which I also loved) without the stupid lace sleeve type stuff, which he's cut back on significantly - they come from the same aesthetic vision of old world Europe. And I do see the changes, the growing pains with him trying to drag his old world into a sort of futurism (hello, stupid cardigan with weird straps coming from the placket. Hello awesome zip trench with the faintest fabric sheen).

Again, for me, it's a matter of finding the items that work and not swallowing the aesthetic whole. His cardigans now are pretty meh most of the time, but last Fall he put out a beautiful fair isle style blue sweater and button cardigan.

how else would you judge him other than his aesthetic? yes every line will have 1-2 good pieces, but to me he's clearly moving in the wrong direction: away from interesting details on interesting pieces. the whole seconds line/the emphasis on stuff like sweatshirts and hoodies shows the direction the brand is going: he's moving towards stuff that's cheap to make and easy to sell, and away from more artisanal/directional pieces. what made his line interesting was the old world direction (and them old world/prussian militarism that he basically lifted straight from plokhov and cloak). yea you can't do that every season, but he's not progressing away from it in a meaningful fashion.

Geller stuff is pretty boring, but some of it comes off really nice. Glasgow coat and the bomber from last season were pretty cool, and I like this piece though it's really just because of a normal looking coat in a cool color

Last season I only liked 2 pieces, the scarred knit and that bomber.

every line will have 1-2 good pieces. that doesn't mean the line is good or is heading in the right direction. same with w+h, I like some of their shit, but overall the brand is going downhill.

I liked Geller FW08 and 09 best. The fencing shirts were amazing. Honestly if I could get those in every colourway and the old W+H 07 riri flannels in every colourway I would not need any other shirts (outside of work clothes obviously). Teger part of the problem is the palette W+H has moved towards has made them basically into a slightly more interesting Gitman Bros. The shirting is really weak now. I recently got an 09 riri flannel and you can already see it going downhill at that season, cut is worse, pattern and colours are just not quite right. As for the notion that the old world romantic prussian military-influenced stuff was "lifted from Plokhov and Cloak", it was my understanding that Geller was sort of the driver of that stuff when IN Cloak and Plokhov was more about tailoring and geometry (which IMO is reflected in his new stuff). But I cannot speak authoritatively, I just remember that being discussed at some point.
