Blackbird and publican are both good places to check out for sure. Kumas burgers are money and well worth the wait you will have to endure to get a table (sometimes between 1 to 3 hours depending on the time).

I view Chicago as the quintessential American city. Good food, good night life, dirty, need a car (or taxi it up) to take advantage of it all, fat people, extreme cold and hot weather, and enough crime to keep you on your toes. I dig it.

The Gap is selling cutoff khakis.... does this mean I have to throw my authentically greased up Sears brand cutoff flat fronts away???

I need to stop categorizing potential kops/what I own. I think "oh well I don't own any light gray denim so I need these", or I have white lo top sneakers, now I need white hi tops. I don't "need" anything. Just leads to exessive clutter.

I am from the midwest, always close enough to Chicago that if I wanted to hop in the car I could be there after a short road trip and do stuff within the day; I've just really disliked Chicago everytime I go. I don't like the 'trendy' stuff, it's all late-pass status, I am not a huge music buff (there are reasons for that) and so I don't enjoy what the music elitests like about Chicago, I think the bar scene in Chicago is not for me and haven't really liked any of them I've been to, Chinatown is boring if you've already been to a Chinatown somewhere else in the world, the fun of going to the southside after dark and getting drunk and looking for tacos loses its fun after some guy jumps out from between the 6" space of adjoining pepsi and coke machines and threatens to stab you for less than a pack of cigarettes, which cost $8.50 a pack in Chicago, btw, and nothing in Chicago is world-class, besides maybe basketball days of yore, baseball if you like it, and a handful of restaurants you probably aren't going to be able to just walk into if you happen to be in town or have a budget of less than $500 for two per meal and the requisite $75 for parking, for a dinner.

It's always been easier for me to save the gas/chicago trip money and just fly to a better city, which is why Chicago has never won any awards in my book.

Chicago, for me, has a freshness that NYC does not. The great thing about NYC is that you can get pretty much anything there - food, entertainment, clothes, you name it, it's probably obtainable, and probably there are 10 good places for the same thing within a few blocks. The problem is, that there are 10 good places for the same thing within a few blocks. This means that every place has to express it's identity with the equivalent of stage makeup. Your identity has to be so pronounced that it broadcasts itself to the world, or risks getting lost. So, if you have an Americana styled restaurant, it's pretty much got to have a resident lumberjack. Atelier is monolithically goth ninja, including owners and sales clerks who look like they are auditioning to be in The Seventh Seal. "Eclectic" means that it looks like a scene out of a Tim Burton movie. Same goes for people. LES people look like hipsters are supposed to look. Wall Street people look like suits. There is no nuance. In Chicago, LA, where everything is spread further apart, or in a smaller market like Boston, where you can't cater to one specific client, the stores and restaurants have those little incongruities (like DSquared hanging next to Dries van Noten, next to some old Converse and some random Puma shoes,) which make things feel more alive.

Thanks, it is true, I've been having a **** ton of fun lately, but also pretty busy on the art front. And, I'm also really happy with the clothes I've bought over the last few years. Aside from the things in my sale thread, that is.

Don't know if this was (10) but.. Virgils are one of the sexiest workwear-y boots out there imo: http://www.myembers.com/?p=209 Visvim is a Japanese shoe/clothing manufacturer. Does all sorts of crazy **** like moccasin/sneaker combos and coats made out of goretex melted onto wool so its waterproof. Selling point is supposedly quality, materials and comfort.. I'm a fan except it seems like the retail prices have been shooting up 50% with every season that comes out
