Why is it that clothing always looks more loose fitting in pictures compared to real life?

Pictures provide a strange sense of objectivity.

Our eyes can't process a depth dimension on a screen, so we flatten everything out and it looks subtly wider.

If you're talking about yoox, that's just cause they don't know fuck about shit when it comes to taking a jacket and sticking it on a mannequin.

I wish I was taller so that all clothes would look better on me, also so that I wouldn't face unconscious bias from employers, also so that I could put stuff on the top shelf in my dorm closet.

Ralph Lauren and Thom Browne are both tiny little men though, I guess I'll scrape by.

Apparently my (deceased) grandfather had a very nice pair of WWII era Aviators, and they're probably still at his house where my grandmother lives. I think it would be something cool to have, especially since they'd be getting no use there and my deadbeat uncle might pawn then... is it disrespectful for me to go and get them?

I don't really think this belongs in any thread but it's more a question of morality than anything else. My dad said he thinks it would be rude to show up for that purpose alone.

Yes. If your grandmother is willing to part with them, then she'll offer them to you.

Uh...yes it would be.

So I got this suit at +J, like last fall's grey suit except in black, regular weight wool. I was going to wear it as a formal jacket, what with the peak lapels. Would it be ok to wear to work? Would it look like I'm going to a wedding? It'd be nice to have two black suits for work that aren't identical. Notice I'm asking here and not in MC (no hate to them, but it's a black suit).

Depends on your work place on how conservative it is. Most places, fuck it, they'll be impressed by you in a suit regardless of it being black with peak lapels. Conservative law, finance, whatever else, maybe not so much. If in Japan or other Asian country, rock on.

Do you work somewhere where people give a shit at all what you wear? If it's some place people know then black looks like you're going to a funeral and you'll get shit about it all the time, but I'm guessing no one is going to give a shit. If you just mean about the lapels, then no, no one is even going to notice it. Unless you work in finance in a really good company or something like that. Even then I doubt anyone would notice.

Also I never had a problem with purchases online via paypal but now I'm getting a little worried because the guy said he'd send my stuff "tomorrow" a 3-4 days ago and hasn't shown up online since. How long before I can't dispute via paypal? I want to give him a little more time but honestly this is getting pretty ridiculous since I payed a week ago and still no tracking number.

A lot of people I've bought from on the 'bay never post items as shipped (which is really stupid for them, I could easily file a dispute and shaft them and I've had a weird auto dispute thing pop up once asking me about a "problem" I had with the seller)

I mean it's possible he could've shipped but didn't provide tracking. Did you know the person at all or was it ebay? Ebay is built to screw sellers so you're probably safe there as long as you're in the time frame. If forum purchases it's dicey. Definitely mind the paypal and your credit card company time limits (if was paid that way via paypal and not just extra paypal account money you had).

I'd try another PM and also send an email to the email address he used in paypal. If it gets to like monday/tuesday and still no response i'd go and start the file process. I mean, if he comes back and says he shipped it but forgot to check his mail or other stuff it's not a big deal because you can cancel the paypal process and things will be normal but still it's his fault for being careless and lazy and not following through.

I've had some forum/ebay transactions with the post office delivering it to the wrong apt complex (same apt# diff building) and the post lady tracking it down because her job depended on it and got it back for me, someone sending shit, disappearing, coming back saying he sent it, getting the package returned to him then sent to me, a guy shipping from overseas, the post office forgetting to put the slip on my door (or it falling off) and it got sent back to him but he was on tour for like 3 months so i didn't get the clothes till 6 months after i bought them, etc... I hate online forum/ebay buying/selling sometims

I don't mind workwear at all but I'm ready for designers to be inspired by something else for a while. It was fun, I still like plaid, but now let's do some prewar Adriatic sea stuff, or some lux aviator gear, or one of those patronizing cultural phases with a bunch of angular prints and kimono references. Anything, really. I'm completely ready to walk into H&M and buy a double-breasted ivory topcoat and some caramel leather gloves.
