I think the hood looks childish. What the hell is the hood doing there anyway?

You're right about this: me saying women can pull off hoodies but men cannot is far from a 100% watertight position. I know some women who look very cute in hoodies, whereas the guys I see on the street look like kids. Maybe I need to play more computer games.

It's quite possible to look normal in a hooded jacket or hoodie. I rarely see guys on the street look good in anything so that doesn't say much. As for the function of the hood, it's really not that hard to figure out. Cold/windy/rainy? Put your hood up. It's like having a knit hat but you don't have to carry it around with you, take it on and take it off.

I know that none of you would ever even consider donning a pair of jean shorts...ever. My contribution to this page is that I don't think you should be SEEN with anyone in jean shorts (male OR female)...ever. They are a sartorial contradiction. As much as jeans have evolved from cheap protection for the railroad worker into a higher-fashion article of clothing that goes with anything, they still are kept long because they're made to keep you warm and relatively protected. Wearing said 'jorts' conveys a message along the lines of 'i want to stay warm and protected, but only from my hips to my knees/mid-thighs'. It's foolish and tacky; don't condone it.

Hoodies are great, but just like everything else there are so many factors contributing to the look. Overexposure will definitely make you hate it though, especially with all the ill-fitting and ill-designed ones you see everywhere.

And how can you not see the point of the hood? Hoodies have kept my head dry countless times during short rains when I've been out.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to wash my jean shorts.

Obviously I can see the point of the hood, I meant that statement rhetorically: I don't often see the hood in use.

This jacket/parka type thing i have has a hood and i definitely utilize it. When it's really cold and when it's drizzling. Nice to not have your hair get all wet and if you're listening to music on headphones/earbuds. Then again, i wouldn't really make decisions based on random street people not looking good. If that was the case i probably wouldn't wear jeans, button ups, blazers, khakis, laceups, etc...

Hoods must be one of the most practical 'attachments' or 'quirks' in clothes, I always use mine.
