what brands should i be exactly reading up and following for boots if i'm looking at lamb/horsehide type material? [venturing into the $700 min. boots/shoe thread atm]

Looking for a pair of black boots that is more SW&D than MC. Can't exaggerate enough about quality. NN boots in the said thread look like they can really take a beating through all elements of weather conditions plus more.
For example right now I am looking at some MMM, HTC, Jil, Missoni

Not quite ready to break the $700, but more like $200-400

This kind of encompasses my current discontent with SW&D. Never mind the person who posted it; it's the sentiment that I'm focused on. It's almost as if the items being bought are immaterial, just so long as it's something you can enter you CC information for. It's the act of buying/shopping that seems to be the modus operandi.

A glorified shopping forum.

On the flip side, though, I appreciate the efforts of the folks who put together the various specific designer threads. Most of those threads have turned into great resources that offer something for everyone. There's enough information and context available in those threads that you should come away with at least a better appreciation of the designer, even if it doesn't suit your own tastes.

The macro thread is also off to a strong start.
