What's cool about the year 2015 is that somewhere there is probably forum for guys that are interested in fashunz and cars, or cars and plants so get searching baby - it's time to barter!

^ left work yeaterday at 8 thinking the day is finally over only to discover my car battery died. It was pouring and I was hungry. After a failed battery charge, hitting my head twice b/c the Lemaire parka hoodie is so big and I couldn't see my way, I got home around 10. Good old cables never fail..

Do you guys ever not get something or dress a certain way because you don't wanna look unapproachable despite being a nice person? Not even talking about aggressively tailored high neck leather jackets, but just wearing a lot of black as opposed to color. Like, none of this dress-to-project-self-image stuff matters if people are scared of you, unless that's what you want. And also, very generally, fit matters as well, as looser fitting clothes, no matter how avant-garde, probably makes you seem more chill than wearing super tailored or tight stuff, thus more room to experiment without intimidating people at social gatherings. Of course all depends on the setting and who you're interacting with.

Interesting thought, but can't say that I have. Probably has more to do with the fact that I couldn't give two shits about looking unapproachable, but like you said, it's heavily context dependent.

They have outlets, I don't know about anything in CA but the outlet outside NYC has bedding for like 60-80% off regularly.
When it's on sale like that its a pretty good mid-tier level option (otherwise it's stupidly overpriced).

They have a store relatively close to me @ the Stanford shopping mall, but the outlet locations are in SoCal. Hrmmm might have to find a proxy.

Why is it that the pocket on jeans always wear through, before the jeans get any good wear, I have mended the pocket lining 2 times now on my LVCs.

All my jeans wear through on the front pockets, my APC's did the same thing.

I dress a certain way so people don't try to mug me.

But I think it depends more on how you wear it than just all black colors. Something like Yohji's "you don't bother me, I don't bother you" black vs grungy/goth black.

I don't find black/tailored clothing has any correlation at all with approachability. I honestly don't think Yohji knows what the fuck he is talking about with that quote. If anything black does the opposite, usually brightens up your face/body and leaving the clothing in the background. Think dark movie theatre, all eyes on the screen. Waitstaff, service people, bartenders all spring to mind, all clad in black, all generally very approachable and friendly people. Black in general is way too rampant in clothing/fashion for something like that to be possible.

I think that misguided idea came from people sensationalizing and romanticizing their taste in fashion, as if trying to borrow some form of identity or personality from clothes that are really just pieces of fabric dyed a certain colour.

Just because it can mean other things doesn’t mean Yamamoto is wrong (or that he was making something up for the sake of romanticizing fashion). Black has a long history and its come to mean many things — some of those things being contradictory. In ancient Rome, black was the color of mourning and death. Later, throughout Europe, it came to mean evil and witchcraft, but also religious devotion and purity (think of the uniforms of nuns and priests). In the Middle Ages, it was the color of seriousness and importance, which is why it was worn by magistrates and monarchs (and used by judges today). Later, it became the political color of opposing groups (i.e. both fascists and anarchists), as well as very different types of people (intellectuals and creatives during the Beat movement).

Black has come to mean a lot of things, but some of the most basic meanings include solemnity, darkness, and impersonality. Waiters and servers actually wear it in part for the last reason. Part of being a professional is that you're somewhat impersonal.
