I guess my article needs some improvements if it wasn't clear what to do ...

Brad some advice. Whenevr I write a memo or anything at work I make sure to write with 0 assumptions of what the other person knows. Everytime I do that people are happy that I explained everything to them. The things that seem obvious to us aren't obvious to others.

One more thing if its something like a wiki with instructions I keep revising and updating it as people give me feedback.

It's pretty clear, and there is really good information about different shipping options, prxy fees, etc...  The only thing is that there is not that much space devoted to actually ordering something.  A lot of times, people know exactly what they want already, so, the important thing is to figure out to get it ordered.  With a personal service, like Sharp Service used to be, it was pretty easy, because there were no mechanics involved.  You basically gave a link, and said "I want this", and you'd get an email back with the full pirce breakdown, and "Do you still want it?"

From Japan is a good service, but has a poor UX, so a tutorial would probably be greatly appreciated.  Every platform, social, commercial, whatever, takes a bit of time to get the hang out, but some platforms are easier to use than others, often because they are pretty standardized.  If a platform deviates from a well known model, that's when people get caught up.  Just take this forum for instance.  The platform on which we run is really powerful, but because of some UX flaws that remain to be fixed, (mostly because it is really expensive in any number of ways) and the features are not typical forum features, they don't get used much.  We can broadcast it every dau. but until the flow is fixed, we are pretty much screwed.  The features that do get used very often are either typical forum features or flow naturally from the layout of the forum.

I don't find "From Japan" that much of a pain to use, but certainly, if I need a proxy, I nearly always go with a personal proxy first.   Or, if it's available on the global Rakuten site, I'll use that, since the checkout there mirrors the checkout for most other retail sites, and I avoid a proxy fee as well.

Try contacting Jon. He's proxies Kapital stuff direct from Japan. He's also good for sizing advice (FME, anyway).

Thanks, Fok. Since I'm not a representative of FromJapan I didn't want to delve too much into "documentation/instruction manual" territory, but that may be what people need.

It's true that FJ's UX is garbage, and I'm testing another service now with far-superior UX that might supplant FromJapan in my guide soon.

Thanks, I figured it out eventually.

It was pretty clear, I am just an impatient moron. The "What is a Shopping Service?" made it clear that I should be able to get them to send me something from Kapital, but then the From Japan section mostly talked about buying from yahoo auctions and it wasn't obvious how to do other stuff on their site.

It's my fault. I assumed the shopping function of FJ was explanatory, since it's literally just pasting the item URL into a field and submitting the form. Clearly I need to be more precise. Thanks for reading!

Yea once I figured out that I needed to click 'Shopping' on the RHS, it was pretty self-explanatory...I'm kind of slow, so it's very possible this is not a problem for anyone else. But I just saw the search bar at the top that didn't seem to help me, and then a bunch of ads below it, and nothing along the top toolbar that seemed to help, and just got discouraged.

It's a terribly designed site.

haha, maybe a little at times. i meant more in contrast to the way you seem in person. you may not recognize my handle but i was the guy who was talking to you and k as we made our way upstairs to the runway space.

FromJapan's design is terrible but it does offer access to a weird selection of work boots and toys. from their front page:
