This, and moderated thumb comments, are both decent ideas. Right now, engineering resources are all taken, but yeah, maybe in the future.

I would love to target really loud autoplay ads to specific users instead of timing them out. I don't get all the things I want either.

On a related note. No one is copping to allowing rogue ads on mobile. Please, if you see them, email the destination url to styleforum.net@gmail.com, so that we can see who is letting these through.

Apparently, even Google is having issues with script spoofing.

Just got an email saying welcome back until Dec. 2015, although I was already one so not sure how it works

So, no expiration? Didn't read my email yet

Until Dec 2015

Nothing too different from regular Yoox account

PS is the fabled SF SF meetup still happening?

I've been meaning to PM you guys about this; my apologies to dudes who've been waiting on a response. I'm pretty open Thursday thru Friday morning, so if people want to make a bar date, I am happy to facilitate! @StanleyVanBuren any chance you feel like coming up to SF? Anyone else who's in the city, feel free to PM me and I'll set something up with everyone who's available.

To speak just a tiny bit towards the conversation above, Fok and I have some ideas moving forward that I think (I hope!) you guys will find exciting. But yes, B+S will be getting some attention, as will the editorial we hope to provide in 2015. Look forward to it! And look forward to sleep. That is what I look forward to.

B&S is a train wreck because you guys are desperate not to take away any of the appeal it has for the real market on the CM side (e.g. no filter or actual classification system, because some CMers enjoy to browse through all the threads so they can "discover" the 254th Hermes tie), which is totally ok, because thats where the money lies, but it gave grailed its niche.

I don't think thumb comments made SWD any better. What would really help you generate more revenue on this side of the forum is if there would be more consistent moderating. The CM side attracts much more new posters than SWD, because the initial response to many new posters here is not exactly welcoming. On the other hand you have posters (new or not so new) that obviously violate some of the "rules" and we have to endure pages long catfights or spam w/o any interference. Do you think anyone who clicks on WAYWT during one of those bitchfests (or any thread with jeans in its name) will stay/ come again? If you want a longterm change towards more clicks, start here.

More shortterm:

The complete right panel is a waste of space

-Recent images
-style forum top picks
-featured stories
-related threads
-currently viewing
-industry insiders
-topics discussed

replace the top picks by a top items in B&S list (by clicks) and the rest by ads and I have a real incentive to look through it.

SWD has a valuable core of really knowledgeable guys. You could take advantage of it by letting people recommend B&S or even affiliate items. This could also be implemented somewhere on the panel? If I had a "parkers top picks" list, I would definitely pay attention.

Really? I like thumbs because I think it allows for cleaner, more meaningful discourse while still giving ample opportunity for tacit approval. It gets really annoying when you see everyone (especially certain people... I won't name names, but they're people I'm not particularly fond of...) quoting the same picture giving the same inane critique without adding anything new. It gives me the choice to show whether I like something or not without having to say HEY I LIKE THIS AS WELL FOR THE SAME REASONS AS ABOVE, BUT LET ME RESTATE THEM AND BEAT A DEAD HORSE BECAUSE MY OPINIONS MATTER TOO, GODDAMMIT! Spoilering of quotes has been proven to be ineffective at removing clutter, as the repeat offenders are exactly that: repeat offenders.

We wouldn't be here posting pictures of ourselves if we weren't narcissistic in the first place, so why not zoidberg foo.gif

I just like thumb comments because they're fun without adding to the bulk of the thread. It's odd, because I hate twitter and everything it represents, and thumb commenting is basically condensed sf twittering...

Yeah, I agree. If thumbs are removed the whole forum will be the Alden thread.

Our policy, and the policy for all the successful menswear forums, has been minimal moderation. I will tell you definitely that they will not change.

New users have needs that have nothing to do with that. They want shopping guides, primers about brands, the ability to talk to vendors, answers about where to buy what, etc
.

Which is super popular, all other considerations aside.
