Because the US is by far the largest economy in the Western world, and strongly consumption driven. Money doesn't rule all, but it's always a major consideration.

Yeah, but I don't live in the US, so I don't see a need why would want to celebrate your holidays, besides maybe Spring Brake.

If I wanted to live in the US, I would move to Seattle and buy CDW and make it into a less douchy version of CG.

I'm not sure if you are being deliberately obtuse.

European retailers are taking advantage of the US market. Two things. First, much of Europe is in recession, so growth is in the USA. Second, the inefficiencies in tax law enforcement makes the US market even more attractive.

Has nothing to do with the actual holiday.

I think you are missing the point, brick and mortars like grocery stores are doing Black Friday and Thanksgiving big time, which I don't get.

Online is a completely different beast.

Hmmm... interesting. I'd love to see the books on that. So, do people actually go for it?

Yup, all the mayor grocery stores have had adds saying "remember to order your turkey for thanksgiving", a mayor news paper had article about making a traditional thanksgiving turkey and all tv adds for last week have been about Black Friday offers.

WHY BRAD!?

i'm honest to a fault and also started smoking weed a lot

wow, for real? That is incredibly dumb, but then again what else to expect from desperate retailers. Reminds me of when Halloween started being a thing 10ish years ago in France and they pretended it was because of the ancient Celtic tradition that predated the American one. Um, no, but nice try

any vintage raf experts around? trying to figure out whether this jacket is legit... it looks like the detachable zip sleeve bomber from FW01 but the label is marked as SS02 (and I don't really recall raf ever doing 1-for-1 reissues of any pieces, ever):
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
