Today I learned Brecht looks like Alber Elbaz. (But I'm afraid I don't know jack about frames.)

You are right, but ime, it's usually that insufferable type of person who uses these terms regularly.  As in, with no sense of humor or irony "Check your cis-gendered privilege."  No, you STFU.

This.  I'm not arguing that the terms are unnecessary, but that the people who use these terms regularly are generally assholes.  They are the liberal answer to white guys who really don't get why they can't use the term "nigga".

I've been meaning to try tinkering with my plugins to see if it's something there.

Maybe I can help you out -- along with anybody else using this extension -- in turn.

Locate the HTTPSEverywhere subdirectory in your Mozilla user profiles folder:
Type %appdata% in Start Menu box > Mozilla > Firefox > Profiles > [abcxyz].default > HTTPSEverywhereUserRules

In that directory, paste the code below, saved as styleforum.xml
Code:
<ruleset name="styleforum" default_off="breaks site">
<target host="styleforum.net"/>
<target host="www.styleforum.net"/>
<rule from="^http://(?:www\.)?styleforum\.net/" to="https://styleforum.net/"/>
</ruleset>

Styleforum now works properly without disabling the add-on.

Do you think that cisgender privilege isn't real?

Frankly, I am uninterested in that debate.  I will say that I've seen more than my fair share of tough, and frankly, actually dangerous, situations, both personally, and in the situations of friends, that I don't have much respect for whining, and even less for white-knighting.  I figure that if you aren't been in danger of getting killed, or fired or kicked out of your apartment, for being who you are, that you should probably count your lucky stars, and STFU.  So essentially, this goes for everyone, of pretty much any persuasion, who lives in San Francisco and Seattle and Portland, all places in which I've spent a lot of time, or regularly visit.  And it goes doubly for anyone who feels safe enough to turn around and butt into a conversation with that line.

Most disappointing post I've ever read by you, Fok. Truly.

it is the white middle-class cisgender straight male who understands privilege, or lack thereof, best.

^ it means your gender = your sex

Whichever group is in power has the privilege. In the state where I live, it's the Mormons. They benefit greatly from this privilege, and, as long as it doesn't affect my life in an overtly negative way, I don't really care. I have known plenty of people over the years who whine about the Mormons, and it gets them nowhere except to make them sound incredibly annoying.

The actual effects of privilege have more to do with the events in Ferguson or the fact that women are being charged with infanticide for having miscarriages than it does with Mormons.

there's a lot more injustice in the world than just ferguson and abortion rights.

the world isn't a fair place. don't expect it to be.

No, and you've probably never been mistaken for being transgender, and I've never actually been transgender, nor have I been a cisgender woman, or black living in America's bible belt, or any other variety of an less-than-ideal situations. I've never lived anywhere other than in a fairly comfortable part of the world. I'm a heterosexual white male which puts me in a pretty good position, despite my fabulous eyebrows.

There are lots of different ways to suffer in this world, sadly. Some people definitely get caught up in the "oppression olympics," but I find the wholesale disregard of these concepts and their origins to be disconcerting at best. Rarely has anyone willing to joyfully trivialize the suffering of others been on the right side of history.
