Nope, Ryan has specifically requested that his jackets be free of any avian decoration. He thinks birds are disgusting.

Horseshoe crabs, however, are a different story.

I think Parker could rock it.  Honestly, that looks so beautiful I would even give it the old college try.  Brioni, huh...

Speaking of Brioni, and cranes, I wish this was a lining.

Anyone have a recommendation for a good, casual, black derby?

Hoiw casual?  What price range and what are you going to be wearing with it.  It could be anything from Vass to Raf Simons.

Fairly casual. Hoping to get something I can wear with dark grey trousers, white shirt, and some kind of very casual top coat. Or a Schneider overcoat I bought from NMWA.

Obviously, the cheaper the better, but I'd like to spend no more than $750 or so.

Also, am I wrong for not liking a lot of designer brand shoes cause they're made from corrected grain leather?

Some designer shoes use corrected grain leather, some use top notch leather and construction.  It really depends on the designer, the model, the season.  Definitely more inconsistent than traditional maders though.

It sounds like you are going for a very minimalist,, Other-Shop, Christophe Lemaire type of look.  If so, Other-Shop actually has a collaboration with Grenson that might work.  It has contrast white stitching, which I find cool for that look, but ymmv: http://www.other-shop.com/other-grenson-men-s-g-lab-black-leather-derby-shoe.html

Much cheaper, and I have no idea why these did not sell (okay, not true, but I feel like they should have been better appreciated), we have Heschungs.  Similar idea, no contrast stitching if you are not into that: http://www.nomanwalksalone.com/index.php/footwear/shoes/black-anicalf-crocus-derby.html  Also, I love the Norwegian stitching.

Wow, those Heschung shoes look great for the price

Raf - http://www.ln-cc.com/invt/raf0118027blk

There's a 10% coupon out there somewhere

Yea, I was looking at those Heschungs, but they're sold out in my size. frown.gif

I'd prefer something with more discrete stitching though. Anyone have any other suggestions?

If toe shape is your top priority then nothing will beat Jil / Raf. Off the top of my head I would say:

For an actual MC shoe but still by a brand, I'd probably take the Cheaney Yang Li. Though a normal cheaney shoe is $400ish max I believe so if the Yang Lis are 50% then you are paying something 'worth' the price

If you want a nice shoe for cheap, then Meermin makes a nice black calf ptb at $200ish shipped and a little to Fedex / UPS, along with wait time of 30 days to a few months. Goodyear welted in China, rubber sole already so no need for a topy. People seem to complain quite a bit about quality issues but honestly in most cases it's minor issues that super picky people can't stand. Nothing beats Meermin value imo. It can also be made in black Argentinian shell cordovan for probably $500ish range? not sure how pricing is right now. You could also get Allen Edmonds leeds but I'm not a fan of AE lasts

Standard option would be the Alden Black Shell Plain Toe Blucher. Shell requires little care other than brushing every once in a while and double sole on shoe should last forever. Also options on commando sole and crepe I believe. Pricing around $670 or so. Will be 30% off at Brooks Brothers with corporate card next month. If you have tres bien code their pair comes down to a bit less than retail too

edit: also blanked on Tricker's:
These go for ~$300 if you can get a 40% or 45% code to work on them. or look up woodstock model
