Because the can't be moderated. there was a lot of abuse.  So, we had to disable them.  If the functionality ever changes, then we might bring them back.  Yes, this is why we can't have nice things, it's true.

Cheaper: yes.  The rise in the price of designer goods has been well documented.  That's been going on for way more than 3-4 years though.  More like, in the last decade.  Put it this way: in 2002, Jil Sander was called insane and commercially disastrous because she was insisting on materials that would result in $800 RTW sweaters.  This was part of the big fight between her and Patrizio Bertelli.  Try finding a luxury brand these days where you can get a sweater for under $800.

Better constructed: no, at least not in the aggregate.

Less hype: yes.  In the past half decade, a lot has changed one the landscape.  Emergent platforms like tumblr and big brands co-opting bloggers has make the hype circle faster and faster.

I know Quoddys are "so 2009," but they just updated their site with a much better designed MTO UI, and I think it looks pretty good

Seems like everyone is updating their site in the last year. Edward Green also just updated, but the page is super simple

They're "so 2009"? By the look of that site, they seem to aim to make high-quality shoes in classic styles. Doesn't that make them less of an anachronism than most?

Their tube earphones are painfully shit, I had a pair and they broke almost instantly.

DT 770 have been discontinued, so there a bargains to be had.

As long as he doesn't get something made by Zound Industries, he will be golden. (Hello Kitty, Urbanears and Marshall headphones have them same interior components.)

I call 06-09 the golden age, everything was fucking great both design wise and quality. There was so much good shit to be had, my favorite store was ron herman and south willard. I remember at the height there were just rooms of margiela, dries, junya, comme, branquinho and everything else you could possibly imagine. SW was the first to have cps, bless, wilhelm, vb, stephan schneider, etc. with lots of other shit. The prices were outrageous at the time but reasonable by today's standards. Nowadays I struggle to find things I like and am thankful for all the dope shit I have. I'd have shit shipped from margiela stores in europe and I knew all the SAs at barneys as well as jil sander. The quality and feel of a lot of things are not the same as they once were believe me.

I had some regular ralfs lol, I think that was my raw denim foray. Thankfully I never bought any b son, filippa k was alright. Cloak was past its prime at that point and I missed the boat on early raf and helmut.

Ye I haven't gotten a good impression of aiaiai's other offerings either, but iirc all the overhead models get good reviews (have only tried the studios for a brief moment, but they seemed nice)
