My sense is that the OP wasn't totally honest about what happened. Seems like they copied most of Grailed's interface. Not just words like Buy it Now or whatever.

My point was that it's the pot calling the kettle black.

Given that multiple people have reported superior sales ability on Grailed in comparison with SF, I don't think the two are analogous (although I haven't personally experienced Grailed before).

It's a couple of things.  First of all, we don't have our own, dedicated developer.  We have a hosted solution, which means that we share resources.  The good is that we are considerably more insulated against things like attacks, breakdowns, etc...  The bad is that we can't just say "Do this", and have someone do something immediately.  The other thing is that it's harder to change an existing software than to build a new one since all the pieces have to play nicely with the others.  So, it's organizational iertia coupled with technical difficulty.

Anyway, hopefully we will get some changes in the platform soon.

I was speaking more about the entirety of the website, and I know a few discussions ago you guys talked about some type of newsletter for members with a yes/no product placement or PR for designers...something along those lines but I think the consensus was 'no' and that Styleforum should grow organically from its current setup.

You did mention that information about B&S I remember.

Not sure if anyone ever brought this up, but "first impressions" make a bigger impact IMO than how the actual roulette is setup. What I mean is how everything is presented...the format of photos and context in a default state. Have Styleforum design several posting templates that members can utilize to best showcase their item. A certain template would be ideal for knits for example with a certain text, or footwear is formatted with another unique text.

It becomes very static in that sense but I'd imagine it will be more like a catalog making the whole experience of online shopping that much more familiar.

Another thing is perhaps get @Sipang to sticky a tutorial on how to take photos. I think it'd help people immensely. And not just how to take photos but the way items should be positioned. I do not think this is particularly technical bu rather just takes a bit more imagination that as a forum we can help each other with; we can provide input and make it a standard per say.

This would take away from all the glam in a sense and let the item being sold stand on its own; the sale is only as successful as what is being sold i.e. popular items, known designers, "forum darlings,"

With the searchability and a streamlined listing approach on B&S, I think buyers and sellers would be happy.

Just some ideas how you can re-approach the redesign of B&S subforum.

I think the core value of Grailed is the interface and the fact that the guy behind it filters out bad stuff. So it's supposed to be just "grail" items (though, that has weakened a bit with its growing popularity). So when you essentially lift that interface, you're kind of taking their whole sauce.

I get that the guy behind Grailed broke forum rules here (possibly even laws), but I don't know if it's the same thing as what that other guy did. Some guy basically knocked off what makes Grailed appealing: the interface. That's the thing that makes finding purchasable items so easy (well, that and his filtering out crap items).

CP achilles and mmm gate perhaps are the most popular sneakers on SF. I'm just curious why some of the best posters in WAYWT seem to favor Margiela gats over CP. Namely Parker, Stanley, Snowman, Regis, Lorcan, nicelynice,... I don't think I've ever seen any good fits with CP.

I think it's pretty obvious why Regis chooses GATs over Common Projects. I personally never liked CPs because the last was too narrow, and felt the foot bed was more comfortable on the GATs (on my third and fourth pairs now, second pair of white lows and a pair of splatter painteds from last season). And I think they look better.

Mellofellow and tons of other people used to post CP's. My CP's are probably my most robust baller sneakers... I'd recommend them if someone was to only get 1 pair.

Also, Grailed has never been about "Grail" items. I remember seeing worn regular old Converse and used J. Crew random shirts for sale mixed in with the cross posts from here and SuFu.

Really only relatively recently has Grailed become a superior selling place. Especially when they started paying Paypal fees, lots of people got off their asses and posted a lot of stuff. Before then moving stuff on Grailed was still pretty slow and prone to the same exact shit that happens here: low balls, stopped communications, etc. It overall wasn't that great of a platform for quite a while, but I guess at this point they've got more momentum now and a much more active userbase. I have quite a few gripes with the place, still. Particularly their messaging system is a mess.

They did introduce Grailed Basics which is for J Crew shit. Never visited so I can't say anything about it, but it was a good idea to separate the two instead of just completely say "No JCrew or Gap". Some very cool pieces have been posted on Grailed though that I otherwise would've missed if it was in SZ classifieds or, god forbid, Supermarket

I personally like CP shape and leather more than GATs, but I think the Original Achilles have a dandy/ preppy feel cause' they are too bright, unless you beat the crap out of it, or get the Vintage.

Isn't this because Grailed is sort of like isohunt -- really an indexer of what's for sale on the various men's forums?

I have both gats and cps and wear my gats more purely because I don't have to lace them up
So chalk it up to laziness

The current vogue is tapered pants. Margielas work very well in that scenario. CPs look great with jeans that aren't too tapered.

TBH I'm starting to just prefer chucks over both of them. Sorta middle ground in terms of sleekness.
