You really hate Hillside, don't you Raz? I think you're safe from seeing it being walked around the conservative business dress here mate.
Thing is, college doesn't have a dress code. The absence of a dress code does not imply casual, it implies that you can wear what you want. But like I said, it's not the advice that's dumb, it's the reasoning behind it. Being well dressed by any standard (casual or non) will make someone stand out, and despite what many people say that is not social suicide. Too much advice on here is treating college like it's highschool as if everything depends on what you think everyone thinks of you, and that's just plain bullshit. Maybe I have some crazy idealistic view of college, but people are pretty open minded, non-judgemental, and down to meet new and interesting people. The bottom line is, if you look good, then other people will usually notice and respond positively (if they don't, then you probably don't look as good as you thought), but clothes don't ******* matter and you should be able to pick up a chick/make friends in jeans, a suit, or a Monsters Inc costume, etc. And yes, this rant was semi-sparked by this thread.
so sick of seeing stupid chinee ppl wearing ugly jeans with fake whisker creases ironed onto the ******* knees
I'm all for styling on people, anywhere, any time, but I try to dress appropriately for the occasion, and apart from weddings and funerals, I really have no need for a suit in my repertoire.
At least there's one good thing about teaching in Korea vs Japan, and that's I can dress however the **** I want.
