I have read through everything on the Madcow and stonglifts sites.. I am a little confused on which program to use and which exercises (since beyond squat and bench press each site differs quite a bit). Both for the most part say dont change a thing... but I am not sure which to go with.

The stable of exercises incorporated in both seems to be:
Squat
Deadlift
Pull up/chin up
Barbell row
Bench press
Overhead press
Dips
Push ups
Inverted row
Power cleans

*a few ab exercies at the end of workouts*
**then a few isolation exercises spinkled in here and there if wanted**

Madcow only incorporates:
Bench
Incline Bench (or Military Press)
Deadlift
Squat
Row
*with added ab and dips, curls, extensions, chin ups/pull ups whenever wanted?*

Stonglifts incorporates:
Bench
Deadlift
Squat
Row (inverted but I will prob. stick to reg. barbell row)
Overhead press
Pull ups/chin ups
*abs added at the end of each workout & deadlifts limited to one set*

Madcow uses a full-on standing military press. Some people sub incline bench, but I'd advise against it.

Madcow, in my experience, was more balanced and didactic. It had more varied workouts and better weight progressions.

yeah one thing i noticed if i am reading it right is Madcow has the "ramping" weight, instead of using your 5x5 max for all 5 reps of each exercise. Whereas it looks like stronglifts, you do some light warm up sets but then do your 5x5 max for all 5 reps of each exercise.
