Vaclava, Do you like pongal to be spicy or sweet? Do you like okra? Are you a vegetarian but eat fish occasionally?

Mr. Despos,

Sweet perhaps only, because of the, cashews and served with coconut, chutney.

I am not a vegetarian, are you? I feel that lite style would not, be accepted in, Sunset Park .

For my feelings of, okra which are, profound I have written, here :

Were you thinking of, Bhindi masala ?

Buffets are a vulgar concept. Dinnertime is fulfilled sufficiently by a single well-prepared dinner - who needs four or five, and all spooned-out of a tray as if dining at a prison?

Vaclava,

Bhindi Masala is what I order most for the spice with Naan stuffed with pistachio and almonds for the sweet.

I see how strong you are about okra. You have practically taken an okra vow of allegiance.

How much do you tip at a buffet? Please offer some guidance.

You no like it, the prison
or
you no like it, the prison food

I have never used "dining at a prison". Will add it to my repertoire. When regaling prison stories.

During grad school, there was a bar attached to an Indian Restaurant near the school. On Monday nights at 10:00 they would have free Indian food and $2 Red Stripe. It was awesome. They would put out to catering trays of food (one vegetarian, one meat), some rice, and some naan. Our class would let out at 9:30, so we'd hop over, grab some beer and get some free food. There is nothing so attractive to starving grad student than free food. And to be honest, it tasted great and didn't upset my stomach. Ok, maybe I got the runs once, but it was still pretty good.

If naan comes before the , 2nd plate 20% if after, $1.

Vaclav's got the tipping down. Naan coming before the 2nd plate is key. A smidgen of butter on a fresh naan from the tandoor would be great, though not required.

IMO, there are some good Indian buffets in Manhattan. I used to take our new hires to Utsav and thought it pretty good. Utsave is pricey for the buffet lunch and perhaps that leads to a more tranquil experience than the OP described. I think darbar has a good buffet. In our town in westchester we have very few restaurants, fewer ethnic restaurants and but one Indian restaurant. The restaurant used to vary from good to very good and over the years I got to know the owner after a fashion. It was sold a couple of years ago and I hadn't been back until my son, after a basketball game, asked if we could go for the buffet lunch. The food on the buffet was shockingly good, really much better than the old place. And they didn't seem to mind that my son finished all the tandoori chicken on the buffet...twice. I can't eat more than a plate and a half of food but it was fun to see my son go at it. We've since gone back for a non-buffet dinner and I'm starting to think its as good as the food I had london, which somewhat paradoxically was better than the food I had in mumbai.

It's good. Most of the food looks the same in my opinion but they all taste kinda different and good in their own way.
