Please share for us, your Indian buffet experience .

Today while I attended the, owner was sitting at the bar speaking with force and, rudeness to the manager for, 30 mins about vacuuming the, carpet. I observed some Asian women, who put only 10grams of each, selection on their, dishes . Next to me Americans spoke of, having their dead dog freeze dried for, future companionship .After I wished I, didn't attend the buffet but that is, a normal reaction for, most I believe due to the, food .

The one essential ingredient , after indulging at your local, Indian-owned and , operated buffet and, readily available at the House of Duane Reade is, Imodium AD which , affords those with the timid, stomachs bountiful opportunity to indulge, ones senses in an elaborate, assortment of pungent curried meats like, lamb baby and sour cali-flower pickled plum yog-hurt cardamom, dishes while, extinguishing ones inflamed taste buds, with Mango Lassos. Thank you come, again.

This thread inspires me to have Indian food, the takeout variety, tonight. Not sure I can withstand the experience at, the buffet.

I had indian, food the, other evening, and the worst case of, hindu squats I ever, had. Refused the, buffet which may, or, may have, not, too smart, been. But I still, the leftovers, had for lunch and was, satisfied.

30 minutes after dining, it feels like I have 20 lbs of rocks in my stomach. I only eat one plateful with moderate portions. I see a lot of people overload the plate. Don't know how they eat so much.

I frequent one close to work and they have one table with condiments and assorted veggies and 2 types of tiny crispy noodle thingies and large glass bowls but I never see anyone using it. I asked the manger what it was and he said, let me make one for you. He mixed about 10 things together with two different sauces, Tamarind and some green stuff. He called it an appetizer. It was full of flavors, very light, very fresh, varied textures. My favorite dish now. Not something I was aware of or have seen elsewhere.

Had an Indian friend of mine put all that together for me once and it was great. Haven't tried it since as I don't remember what all he included, but I'm supposed to go to the buffet tomorrow so maybe I'll give it a shot.

It's sort of funny. The next time I went I made one myself from memory of watching the manger. While I was eating it, the manger walked by and noticed I had made one and asked if he could taste it. He gets a spoon, takes 2-3 bites from my bowl and gives me a critique. I didn't know what to think.

In my experience sit-down Indian restaurants are eons better than their buffet counterparts. I will also note that I have never gotten the runs from Indian food, it's great cuisine (I love naan!)

Was it a good or a bad critique? Either way, guy sounds kind of awesome.

Said I should add more noodle for crunch and the amount of tamarind made it a touch sweet. Overall it was OK.

What you ate was probably some variant of a dish called chaat. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaat Almost all Indian buffets have all the ingredients to make a chat concoction. The green "stuff" is coriander chutney. There is usually garbanzo beans, yogurt, onions, two or three chutneys, and a few other ingredients involved. Delhi chaat thats made in Delhi is heavenly. Indian buffet is the perfect way to get rid of a hangover. Being Indian, I have had the misfortune of eating at a bunch of different buffets. Almost all of them are disappointing. Ordering from the menu is always better. Haven't tackled too many Indian buffets in NYC yet, but will start on them soon. Vaclav, do you have, a favorite dish, of the Indian cuisine?

I don't, know what I, eat at the Indian, buffet because I don't, ask. What I, do know is, that it, looks the same going, down, as it does going, out.
