Apparently them killing him won't work. The poison is the only way to kill Sayid and Sayid needs to want to take the pill for it to work. It seems like for whatever reason the new Others can really force the survivors to do anything. Yes they kidnapped them but when Sawyer made his big commotion when he was trying to break out they didn't stop him even though they clearly had the manpower to rush him, Dogen just sincerely pleaded that he stay, and Sawyer didn't. Just like he couldn't refuse Kate's request to leave, and Jin's request to go with her. Even in earlier seasons this was the case, but it hasn't really been revealed until now. When Ben wanted Jack to operate on his tumor he told Jack "
I want you to want to save me". He could have just forced him to operate or threatened to kill Kate (who was imprisoned with him). There are a lot of flaws to this theory though.

I thought the one in the premiere was interesting, but Kate centric episode have
always felt like fillers.
