Upgrading firmware for your typical DVD player? Fat chance. Even if they put out firmware updates, which isn't likely, installing it would be a pain. Probably involve buying a hacked chip form Ebay and soldering it in there. Been there done that during the Apex days. More hassle than what it's worth.
Popcorn Hour/WD TV looks to be the future, but I'm holding out for new generations of them.
