I have always been a fan of the beer and a shot. usually a pretty good beer, and either a good bourbon, rye, scotch or tequila.

I have usually just mixed the two randomly - a beer that I like with a shot that I like. I just thought that maybe there are certain beers that go better with certain liquors.

anybody have any suggestions or favorite combos?

I no longer chase my shots with beer, as I found that the beer made me drunk. I am now a "water back" guy.

I used to enjoy pairing various 100% agave tequilas with an ice-cold Carta Blanca. The Carta Blanca was more for sentimental reasons than because it is a particularly good beer; it doesn't have a lot of taste.

Of course, alternating good ryes or whiskeys with good IPAs is always nice. Any Van Winkle product before or after Lagunitas IPA always makes me happy.

Hello,

I had to look up becherovka, I had never heard of it.

I don't usually like herbal liqueurs; does it taste anything like Jägermeister?

I think you mentioned slivovitz before, I had a friend once who liked to drink that. I drank it with him but it was punishing.

They are similar, but something in the taste is different.

Maybe the Slivovice you drank, was made in the home? The quality can change, but even with a better 1, it is not so smooth.

Some people I know are big fans of sake bombs and jager bombs, although the latter is usually done with Red Bull.

I think sweeter ales tend to go well with bourbon, though I tend to sip the shot, as well as the beer--I'm a lightweight.

Also, I'm partial to Sapporo or Asahi dry with sake. (That doesn't really count as a shot does it? Enjoyable, nonetheless).
