How else can you show the rest of the world you're a runner?

That's what I heard from all the old timers. They say running outdoors is much better than running on the machine, and that it's a completely different game.

It is. Better? Uhh....depends on a lot of factors.

How is it different? I think you can imagine. If not, go run a few miles outside.

Why it's not 'better': there is no 'better' in the health and fitness world. Every person is a different case.

It feels easier to run harder and longer on the mill than outside for me.

You run differently on a treadmill. You don't have to push off to go forward, for example. It's not necessarily better, just different.

I'm usually more worn out from running outside than on a treadmill.

Paved roads don't interst me too much; trails have more changes in elevations and uneven surfaces that force you to contstantly adapt in a way that treadmills can't replicate. Treadmills have the advantage of a controlled cardio environment.

Nother is "better"... like for me I always prefered outside running. Can't explain it.

Typically, the treadmill robs you of the opportunity to run around shirtless and sweaty in front of countless cock-hungry women. As a married man, that is one of my few-remaining guilty pleasures. In that respect, the streets reign supreme.

Exactly my point about 'better': for you it seems easier. For me, I can't run my fastest unless I'm on a track with spikes on. The biggest problem I have with treadmills -- at least in physical terms -- is that aren't big enough for a decent stride length. Most people do the 'marathon shuffle' on them. Then again, most people do that anyway. Personally, I have an issue with using energy to power a machine which has a sole purpose of expending energy on a person that previously consumed too much energy.

Am only a part time runner, but I was doing a bit of research on running surfaces (after some minor injuries) and came across this article, and others, which rate concrete and asphalt as some of the worst surfaces you can run on:
