Alcohol free mouthwash

Mouth gets very dry at night and for a while I was using normal Listerine until I did some research and asked my dentist about it. Apparently the Listerine is not the best for people with dry mouth. I have been using Biotene for a while now and have been pretty happy with the results but want to try something else to see if there is a better alcohol free mouthwash.

I picked up Crest Pro Health and promptly returned it after reading the 150+ 1 star reviews and all the horror stories on Amazon. Others that I saw were:
Smartmouth
ACT
Toms of Maine

anyone with any experience in regards to those brands of alcohol free mouthwash?

Holy shit! Never knew this about Crest PH mouthwash. Thanks. I looked at several ACT's and a few of the types do actually have alcohol in them. Never tried Tom's or Natural Dentist but I'll have to give them a shot now.

neither did I... did you check out the reviews? I did a little search and it seems to be a huuuggee problem. I think I may just stick with Biotene... probably not much better anyway, and Tom's is a pain in the ass for me to find locally.

It stains your teeth brown.

I used the Crest Pro-Health mouthwash and my teeth also got stained brown, albeit in little spots. Turns out that the brown spots were plaques, which I promptly scraped off. The mouthwash is ok if you don't already have pre-existing plaque on your teeth, I guess.

If you're using Biotene for dry mouth, or Oasis for that matter, just give up. They don't work for shit. As mouthwashes, I never felt either gave me a particularly clean feeling. I tried ACT Total Care in the alcohol-free green (spearmint?) last night. Fucking awful.

Many dentists seem to endorse BreathRx. It should not cause any negative cosmetic side effects.

Picked up a bottle of the original BreathRx last night. Kind of a minty/medicinal taste. Not too bad and seemed to get the job done. Trying out the Toms Peppermint next.

I just worked through a bottle of Toms (I forget which flavor) but it's taste and texture took some getting used to.

I just started working at a company specializing in fresh breath clinics... the short version of the story is alcohol based mouthwashes are BAD... they temporarily kill of the bacteria population but they come back 1. within a few hours (same resources, less competition), and 2. There's a rebound effect (they overpopulate) so the problem is worse then before... What you want, is Chlorohexidine or something like that. It'll neutralize the bacteria and also stop them from giving off gasses (your bad breath). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorhexidine For your dry mouth, alcohol is going to dry it out even more. It also could be that your nose isn't clear so you're breathing through your mouth. Try breath-right or some sort of nasal strips to open up the nasal passages, or even a saline pump before bed.

that bit about breathing may be my problem, I broke my nose several times during my teenage years and my breathing through it isnt that great, so at night when sleeping i breath mainly through my mouth.
