Anyone have experience sending money via Western Union?

I have some money to send to someone for a purchase (not related to this forum).

What threw me off is that they only do domestic orders (US), but their Western Union info is as this:

Payout Location: Beijing
Payout Country: China

So does this mean the payment will be picked up in China and sent to the US from China or is it just info they put down and it doesn't necessarily have to be the resident's country?

Only to my friend in Nigeria who is a top official of the federal government contract review panel there. He was interested in importing goods using funds that are trapped in Nigeria, and I'm getting 20% of the transaction value. Win-win situation

That's exactly what I'm getting!

No, this is a legit transaction, I was just surprised to see them in China, I guess.

They are actually branded Eastern Union over there.

I tried to use Western Union once. I set it up on the web, paid Western Union with a credit card, and the transaction nearly immediately put a fraud alert on my credit card and froze it.

Turns out it was just easier to wire the money.

Dunno. I went to a branch to use it to send someone money. It's really not hard.

Millions of illegal aliens use western union to send money back to their home country so it can't be that hard .

I bet it is incredibly easy if you go to a branch with a wad of cash.

Go to the branch, it's easy. No ID required to send money, unless it's over a certain amount-which I believe is $1,000.

I used it once to pay a purchase from an SF brother... no problem on my end but I think he was inconvenienced about which branch to get the money from or something like that from his end, in the United States.

When I saw this thread title, the first thing I thought is "for chrissakes - don't let it be a someone trying to send money to pay for something of ebay/craigslist/kijiji"

It's easy to send money, but once it's sent, you have absolutely no protection. So, make sure you know who you're sending the money to.
