One more thing about the measurements: Please measure everything in decimals, not fractions (i.e., do 17.25" instead of 17 1/4")

I'm afraid not. Only measurements are accepted.

a chambray that can yield crisp fades is still a rarity (even though I hope my indigo/black mfsc will do the job) - so, I am curious which colors will be available

Good work, Zissou, very kind of you. I hope I get my paper right so I can be on it.

Possibly stupid question:
if youre sizing slim, why would you add a half inch? wouldn't this make it looser?

My point is that if you size it super slim, you might find it a little too slim, which almost happened to me the first time around.

Zissou, for comparison, do you have photos of yourself in the chambray from Nathan which you kept? Am I correct in understanding that you ordered two, and the one that didn't fit properly was the red one which you sold, pictured on the first page of this thread? If that's correct, then I'd be curious to see what type of fit you prefer (I ask because apart from maybe the shoulders being a hair too tight, and sleeves an inch too short, that shirt looks really good on you).

I guess this also leads me to another topic... If I think about it, the reason why I can rarely ever bid on the true original workshirts on eBay (Hercules, Big Yank, Coastwide, etc.) is that apart from the sometimes $300+ prices, they'd never fit me well anyway. Even on a 46" chest, the sleeves are susually around 24 or 25... I need at least 27.5.

However, assuming sleeves fit properly, those shirts are supposed to have a certain look to them... the way they fit guys back in the '50s, they certainly didn't look "made-to-measure." They had a little bit of bagginess in the shoulders, sleeves and torso, while somehow not loooking like they were too big. Therefore they fit well... but not too well if that makes sense (see dude below).

I suppose what I'm getting at... is if we take measurements of a modern shirt that 'fits' us well, and is nice and slim... it's not quite as authentic. And somehow, you can always tell the difference between an original, and a modern reproduction (even a high quality one) I guess I'm not sure which way to go, with my measurements. Has anyone else considered this, or am I thinking too hard about it?

JoyDiffusion- I actually wound up keeping the shirt that I'm wearing in the fit pic. The two fit nearly identically, but I liked the collar a little more in the shirt I kept. Really, the fit of the shirt is great, but I would have liked a little more room n the shoulders. It's not apparent when I am standing still, but if I move or reach for something, it simply feels a little tight. Then again, I am usually a bit OCD when it comes to the fit of clothes and I tend to overanalyze it a bit. You bring up a great point about true vintage workshirts. I am in a similar situation as you since I am 6'2", 170 lbs, with a 38" chest. If I were to buy a vintage workshirt that fit me in the chest, the sleeves and body would be about 4" too short. Even most modern workshirts are enormous on me if I get one that is long enough. After several failed attempts at having shirts tailored, I've finally decided that MTM is the way to go, hence this whole group buy... The fit of a shirt and what you or I might consider a shirt that fits well are entirely relative. Personally, I like a shirt that is as slim as possible but allows for a wide range of movement. I love the look of an authentic shirt, but if it doesn't fit me the way I want it, then I am not going to wear it. I don't care how cool the pockets are. So, I figure I get the best of both worlds with a vintage-inspired shirt that fits me the way I prefer. The only way a shirt is supposed to fit me is how I want it to fit. I personally would not enjoy wearing a shirt that fit me like the shirt fits the man in your photo above. If you want a "true vintage fit", then go for it. Or, go for a more modern slimmer fit like me. I think you are the one who has to decide this... I realize this idea of fit is all relative, which is why I, as much as possible, try to say things like:

Perhaps you might be overthinking it a little, I don't know. These measurements really should be based on an existing shirt. You can pin it a little slimmer and measure, or you can add a inch here or there. I really don't recommend guessing at any of the measurements, though, as you might wind up with something that fits like this:

I hope this all made sense- I'm really tired from a long day of driving.

Teger, I'll likely start taking orders on Saturday, but that depends on when Nathan sends me the photos of the chambrays and buttons (I should most likely get them tomorrow). Then, it's basically first-come, first-serve. Whoever orders earliest gets the best choice of colors and buttons. I'll probably accept orders on the Workman for a couple weeks and then end that group buy and start taking orders for the Navyman, which will continue for a week or two.

Photos of the chambrays are definitely coming today. Word from Nathan is that he can get 20-30 different colors! Jesus, I can't wait to see them...
