Curry ... for breakfast ?!!

Recently in Japan, there has been a "boom" in the past year for eating curry rice for breakfast. Apparently, it was all started by Mariners star player, Ichiro Suzuki, after a TV documentary noted his wife makes it for him before he goes off to a home game:
Quote:
..."While contemplating the next curry product, the company's product developer noticed a TV show on baseball star Ichiro Suzuki that aired on New Year's Day in 2008. The special showed Ichiro eating the homemade curry his wife prepares for him every morning before he goes to work as a Major League Baseball player. The word "morning" stood out in the product developer's head." ...
The full article here: Ichiro Sparks Curry for Breakfast Boom As much as I admire Ichiro, I don't think I could stomach the thought of chowing down on something that savory (and spicy) in the morning! Give me my coffee and my bagel...

I eat curry all the time for breakfast. Actually started back in 06, got left overs, eat them for breakfast, makes sense right? Though I have seen a recent influx of "Asa Karee" (Morning curry) ads on TV.

Thai curries have too much liquid for my taste.

I'm a fan of vnese curries, they have low viscosity like Thai curries but not as much coconut milk. The only curry I don't like is Indian.

Mmmmmmm... roti paratha.....

Eating curry, or spicy food for breakfast, is very common in parts of SE Asia and on the Indian subcontinent. When I was travelling through that area, I used to love having a roti with dahl (curried lentils) and perhaps a lassi for breakfast. An excellent way to start the day.

For those who don't think that they can stomach Ichiro's breakfast curry, it would probably be easier to stomach than a traditional Japanese breakfast. Anyone want to try steamed rice, raw egg, miso soup, fermented soybeans and some dried or raw fish to start the day?

What is wrong with that? Sure its no Capn Crunch but it is filling and at least nutritious.

I guess I was thinking of the real deal spicy Indian curry when I posted. The Japanese-style curry I tried today was a lot milder and not bad .. for lunch.
