They go for around $3-4K new.

Don't waste your time. But if you like it, track down a used one. Not worth the full retail price.

My 2 Australian cents.

I have a question, I have been reading up on Baume and mercier and the general ackknowledgement is that it is overpriced and not that high of a quality. Recently, I bought a baume and mercier for 1k, it is their Capeland S line that retails for 4k, it is brand new. I thought I was getting a steal, but from what I have been reading it seems I payed what the watch was worth. Please, anyone have any thoughts?

I like it though I prefer their Classima line. $3 - $4 does sound like a lot for a B&M but I don't think anyone can say that has anything to do with intrinsic value/quality alone (after all is a $20k Patek really 400 times better built than your average Seiko?) Like any Swiss watch you're paying for the brand/prestige so you have to comfortable with that brand. I have no doubt that like any prestige Swiss brand, the quality and workmanship is second to none.

1k is a rather good price to pay for a basic 7750 or 2892 (you don't state if it's a chronograph) based watch.
