Revolution in Male Clothes, May 1966

Hey everyone,

I picked up a vintage issue of LIFE magazine on ebay and thought that you might get a kick out of it. The article is titled "Face it! Revolution in Male Clothes" and is dated May 13th, 1966. It talks about the influence of British mod fashion in menswear. With all the Americana talk these days, it's cool to look at something from across the pond. The cover shot is four dandy dudes in Chicago.

And sorry that some bits are cut off. Unfortunately, LIFE's full format is a bit too full for my small scanner.

If I was shorter I think I'd like have some boots with them (ala LabelKing), but at 6'2" I don't need to look any higher than I am already.

I used to have this magazine when I was younger! This was actually kind of a blueprint for how we used to dress back in the early '90s. I used to search the school's library for magazines like this to get good clothes ideas.

Thanks for posting this! Haven't seen it in a while.

I love that tagline. "Revolt in men's wear -- gaudy and very gear." Haha. I don't even know what the hell that means.

My dad gave me a Pierre Cardin blazer and Christian Dior camel coat that he bought in Paris in the early 70s. Pops had some steez back in the day. They're in perfect condition and just sitting in my closet. This makes me want to trot them out and go 'Carnabying.'
