The rare case of a movie that's simultaneously very good and very bad.

Very much a significant movie, a movie very much of its time, and yet undeniably kitschy.

I think a lot of Michael Douglas' character's frustrations seemed wedged into the plot, but kitschy? Explain.

Many story elements seemed pretty hackneyed, i.e. the cop who's just about to retire, the sentimental children's toy he holds onto, etc.

Of course, it's been about 15 years since I've seen it.

Give me some Mametian verbiage to go with the downward spiral in "˜Edmond'. They could have carried Branagh over from play to film, but H.Macy was fabulous. Mamet's direction might have added something extra, but it's still an underrated film.

It's been a very long time since I saw this movie, but I remember being a bit disappointed as it moved on. I don't remember exactly why, though.
