Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I am curious about the price comparisons between buying the same pair of Japanese denim in Japan vs in the US.  For a 300 USD MiJ pair of jeans sold in the US, what would they go for in a shop in Japan?  I am going there in a few months and was wondering whether I should hold off buying jeans until I get there...

It really depends on the brand, some brands now are actually the same price in the states than they are in Japan.

Just about every brand from Iron Heart to Stevenson Overall to Flathead is significantly less expensive via online shopping. Rakuten is now set up to ship to the US and companies like SutoCorp can proxy for you at only 8%. I was able to find a pair of a popular brand for less than 50% of what US vendors sell them for here. Just search the web and use google translate to find sales and get the best prices.

Of course the valuable info you get on fit, brands and care from guys who run shops in the states makes a big difference too!

In case anyone buys some Japanese denim with untranslated care instructions, here is my translation of a clothing care guide from a recent Men's Ex:

http://friction-less.blogspot.com/2013/09/mens-ex-special-edition-japanese-and.html

It covers the Japanese Industrial Standard of care pictograms, as well as those from the International Organization for Standardization.

I hope this might be helpful for some of you.

All The Best, My Friends!
