After lurking around in this thread for a while I just made my first order. A double monk strap on the U last in antique cognac with metal toe taps and some minor customisations. Just waiting for a reply now, beyond exited! 

Got a reply in less then 24h and the shoes will be ready in 6 weeks, total cost including shipping and lasted trees, £380, €470 or 616 dollars. Great value! However they said that sunken metal toe taps can only be done on the double tapering to single sole. Does anyone know there reason for this? I know G&G does it on their single soles for example.

You answered your own question, U-last is "too sleek", f provides a classic shape that is timeless and more elegant, but if you want to learn the hard way (as I did), purchase the U, wear it for a year or 2, then you will notice gravitation to the F and sell your U-last shoes, and purchase new ones on the F

You could just trust me and order it on the F

I think the U last is sleek, but not "too sleek". I mean, I could say the same for the F last then - "too clunky". The F last is timeless, yes, but the U last is just as beautiful. There are so many examples of shoes on the U last that have turned out to be stellar here. Just because the U last didn't work for you doesn't mean it won't for him.

Well i'm pretty convinced I want the U for this shoe but I appreciate all the advice! It's a shame they don't do metal toe taps on the single sole, do you know if they do rubber ones?
