I was there for 2 straight days and managed to meet Mr Vass himself. He doesn't speak English so one of the sales assistants there, Miss Betty kindly translated for both of us. We talked about shoes, the market and quality for Vass shoes and also the future of Vass shoes. He also kindly assisted in taking measurements of my feet and also helped me widen a pair of shoes that I bought (French Oxford ankle boot on the F-last).

Below are some of the shoes I tried on. The  French Oxford in navy calf and scotchgrain was gorgeous. Will be getting those soon.

Great post , now if only i can get my sizing right !!!

Take a nice 2-night weekend trip to Budapest! I took an educated guess and surprisingly my U lasted shoe fits fine (I would even say a little 'loose' when I wear thinner/summer socks). I bought a 40 and my low instep in combination with the high instep last of the U I think privides good volume to give me a nice fit and not have the tightness people describe. My experience contradicts most of everyone's experience with the U. If/when I visit Budapest I might try a 39.5 just for comparison.

It cost a little more and figured why not. Personally, just for convenience, I will get the spring loadd ones in the future.

If i'm not mistake, they are approximately 540 euros. I'm planning to order one myself in antique cognac and add a compartment for my Ipad. I forgot to ask if they make it using shell cordovan.

Why would you use shell cordovan for a bag? Have you experience with how it wears?

If I might stick my fat nose in, I can think of three good reasons:

- cordovan has that awesome patina, which will get better rather than worse with age, even without much care, so;

- you'll have a great heirloom for your grandson that looks even better than it did on the first day; after all your shoes might not fit him, and;

- it's hard to scratch and basically indestructible, so it should last for generations

All that said, I just love it in that cognac scotchgrain.  Then again, I love pretty much anything in scotchgrain....I mean..who doesn't right?

Both look great! I dig the details of the brogueing on the black pair.

The only shell cordovan briefcase I've seen is that odd model on BB's Peal series. Since shells are not too large, a proper shell briefcase would have the seams be part of the style. Most likely it would be far too shiny and eye-catching when buffed-up, but simply gorgeous with a suitable matte finish. Vass sure handles their shell, they'd make a mean case with it.
