A bit off topic since this is the Vass Appreciation thread, but is this really the consensus? I haven't even seen a competition since Gaziano&Girling launched their RTW lasts. They have a bespoke feel and look outmatched by none -- and I've owned and ogled too many shoes to mention.

nah - just an opinion. so what's yo fav?

I personally like the Vass cordovans the most. their calf is underwhelming to me now...

the top looks more like red cognac than bordo, bottom one is oxblood

looks like oxblood to me then, though it looks like the first one is under a lot more flash than the second one (just comparing the carpets)

vass's oxblood is very dark brown with a redish tint too it, or for a better example get a very fresh pint of guiness and hold it up to the light it should be also of a redish tint,

both pictures have a bright flash so you wont be able to see the colors propper

i have had both tones each in 2 different shoes so this is why i know/ guessing only other issue would be batch issue

IMO bordo is the nicer of the 2 tones as you can antique it nicer

Bordeaux seems to be for Vass what Edwardian is for EG - lots of variation and unpredictable what you'll end up with, but always looks good regardless.

How do you do that? - other than wearing them a lot.
I've heard that Lattanzi buries his shoes for a year or more and gets a nice effect, and I've noticed on at least one of my Vass that the process of getting wet then drying over and over can cause an antique effect.
My understanding is that antiquing is an artificial process shoe makers developed to imitate distinctive variegation effects caused by UV exposure - display shoes left neglected in shop windows for many years developed a patina.
Tell us yo secrets.

wax, cream, vodka and elbow grease

lighter tones are easier to add antiquing the darker they are the more they need shine IMO

thanks, I'll give it a try - I don't agree with VRaivio that Vass calf itself is wanting, but I do wish they'd offer an antiqued option along with their Italian polish

Red's more of a Ferrari red (top), then dark cognac, then Bordeaux, then Ox, then brown (top)

I love the look of the Bordeaux but not sure how I'd actually wear it. The Ox is classi tho
