I’m looking at two models the Alt Wien in 3636 without the medallion and the London in new peter last both in black cordovan....I'm all ears.

Either should be great. It really just depends on if you want a more casual shoe (Alt Wien) or slightly sleeker one, although still casual. If you do go the Alt Wien route I'd lean towards keeping the medallion. They have a few medallion options so best to specify which one.

If the black cordovan is non-negotiable, I would go with the Alt Wien in either 3636 or P2. I'm not a fan of black cordovan, so personally I would go with the London in black scotch grain or black calf in the P2 last, either with a double sole or black vibram for a casual shoe.

I wish Vass had more choices of color so options are limited to black and bordo. Any reason for your dislike black shell?

I own black shell and like it (my pair has more of a matte finish for whatever reason which I enjoy), but I think the nicest shell colors Vass has access to are Antique Cognac and Dark Brown. To me they are the epitome of what a great brown should be.

It's not that I dislike it, just that one of the things I like about shell is the different shades and color changes of the leather with time, don't know how black shell will age. also, I like to polish black shoes and give them a nice shine and black shell is kind of matte (at least the ones I've handled from Alden). I prefer calf in black.

According to the Vass web site, they offer antique cognac and dark brown horsehide, they don't have any even on backorder?
